¿No anthems in the wiki?

Posted by Jesus Antonio on 21 October 2017 in English (English)

As well after see the 140 countries (Or more). i see that no one have an anthem song. i think that it will make OGF more realistic. as well a anthem is easy to do by computer.

I'm sure there are some that have an anthem for their country. I have one for mine, but I've not uploaded it. It's really not that necessary for this site. Keep in mind that doing an anthem would be overwikification in most cases (that is, having too much detail on the wiki and not enough on the map).

Even then, who is going to compose the anthem? Not many people on this site are musically talented.

I will only say... so, you think there should be anthems? Then make anthems. Nothing is stopping you. But there is no need to complain about what other people choose to work on.

I have no musical talent, but I published the lyrics for one of my countries' anthem.

The the point about overwikification is valid. Focus on the map first. Your current mapping skill looks about the same as my musical skill.

If the map is boring or frustrating to you and you just want to build an imaginary wiki, then you are on the wrong website, and there are other sites that would be better for you.

I can help compose anthems if needed, but I agree it's not first priority. Mapping first, then history, culture and international relations, anthem is a cherry on the top. On the other hand, a realistic anthem doesn't necessarily reflect deep cultural currants, few feal ones do.

Several years ago, I did have a go at writing some national anthems. However, I never got very far because I realised I'd never be able to produce more than a crude synthesized realisation, and also that it wasn't really very important in the grand scheme of things. Also, I cannot see a way to upload sound files on to the wiki.

I usually avoid writing national anthems as the people of my countries tend to speak languages that I don't speak myself, so it's a bit complicated to write poetry in them (when I say poetry, I mean 'anything that rhymes'). The last time that I wrote one was around 20 years ago, so following Jesus Antonio's remark I made a (very tiny) attempt for the national anthem of Řots. It's only the refrain and I'm doubtful that the seventeen verses that I described will ever see the light of day :-) I'll try to add a score if I manage to finish it.

I'm musically talented. But unless you want your anthem in the style of 1990s R@B don't ask lol.

I can compose music, and I can write generic patriotic-sounding texts. I have some vague idea for an English translation of the Agardirian Anthem but I don't want to write any anthems until I've developed my mapping and history more, and I have little motivation to compose music anyway.

The best thing is understand you own language (In my case is Ukirian) but is best first do the history and mapping and then do the anthem.

I've got one! Rather than spending time making one, I found the most obscure anthem imaginable in Wikimedia. It's a little village in Spain that, oddly, has its own anthem. It worked since Castellanes is the native one of the two official languages, an it's so obscure that it fits in the rules we use for choosing images on our wiki pages. So I linked it on my wiki page, finished in 2 minutes. http://wiki.opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/Caladea

I think it would be strange to use a real country's anthem (I've seen one or two linked on wiki pages), but if you sort through the song recordings on Wikimedia, there are quite a few very obscure hymn / choral / traditional etc songs that made for good anthems. That way you can map more, compose less.

Found them in categories like vocal music, choro, anthems, folk ... https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Musical_genres
