To the Admins

Should this discord chat be on the top navigation bar?

I created the discord chat yesterday and it seemed to have gained almost 30 people total.

I think it is too early to make it something "official." Let's see how it gets used, IF it gets used, how it fits in to the rest of the community, etc. Maybe ask this again in six months?

In general, the admin team has worked to avoid building "OGF-branded" venues on other platforms. The philosophy seems to be a desire to keep the community focused on the map - our community is too small and dispersed to support a full-fledged social network across multiple platforms (e.g. previous proposals for google groups, facebook pages, reddits, etc.). However, clearly this "diaries" platform is pretty poor for ongoing conversation, too. Discord is a very simple platform, and personally I am not opposed and can support, but I can't speak for the other members of the admin team. So let's give it some time.

I think you're right, Luciano.

Don't forget the fact that with more means of communication, fewer people will discuss plans on the wiki and on user diaries. This means it might be easier for users to miss something important.

Indeed, @thunderbird. chat is fine for sharing work or brainstorming or learning new skills, but I would avoid it for anything official of any kind. It would not be fair to users who aren't using the chat.
