Naming international waters

Posted by LemonKing on 16 October 2017 in Finnish (Suomi)

The different seas and bays seem to have no name tags on the OGF map. Searching the wiki reveals that some of the major seas do have agreed-on names like Vinn Sea, Belphenian Sea etc. Is there a reason these names don't appear on the map? I think having name-tags for international waters would be helpful, especially for new users who are trying to get an overview of OGF. It would also be a significant symbolic sign that users communicate and collaborate successfully. Is this an admin issue?

I am a noob when it comes to OSM-GIS conventions, but I guess naming large multipolygons is just too complicated and unnecessary a task.

Besides that, when placing a node like in OSM, the names of the water will still not show. But I understand your point that it would be great for reference on the map.

Yeah, seems like the tag being used for the North Sea in OSM is one that doesn't render on the map as it's still a proposed feature. The natural=bay tag doesn't render except when you zoom in a lot, so it's really meant for smaller bays and coves.
