Mercian Airways - call for destinations

Posted by Myrcia on 1 November 2015 in English (English)

Mercian Airways is looking for international destinations to call at. We are a mid-sized flag-carrying airline for the Kingdom of Mercia.

Route map

Wiki article

Please post below with airports at which Mercian Airways can begin to operate flights and if there are any airlines in your nation which would like to begin flights to Elmham International Airport.

Mercia is a small island nation so my model here is based on Malta, I am looking for medium-haul flights to regional and international hubs and for trade and business routes. Malta's most far-flung destinations are Dubai, Moscow and Stockholm. I would like my flights to be restricted to the area shown in the route map. - Adam

My country sadly didn't make it into your reach, but I really like the approach of limiting oneself by looking at how similar countries in the real world function :) I still haven't gotten around to do something like this for Kojo, but perhaps I'll just wait until I've learnt more about it by looking at how other community members did it xD Good luck with your airline!

Gobras City may look nearby on the map, but that's only due to the projection. In fact it's nearly 11,000 km away from Elmham... about the same as flying from Malta to Jakarta, or Mexico City. If you want to fly there, no one would stop you (and Khaiwoon would be an ideal destination too), but if Mercian Airways is in fact limited to medium-haul flights, it would probably fly only within Archanta. :-(

If only we had a radius around a point tool for Open Geofiction!

@Isleno I was going to have Gobras City as my furthest long-haul destination. I think it's a useful hub for that area in a similar way to Dubai (although much further I realise).

How do you measure distance in OGF? I'm not sure I'd know where to start.

Yeah, Gobras City would be very long-haul. I don't know about measuring stuff in Potlatch, but JOSM has a measurement plugin which is pretty handy.

Hi Mercia! Your country looks great, your wiki stuff as well. I would have appreciated Mercian Airways flights to Garlis and Kalm, but I'm too far away. :(

Well, maybe my national flight operator for Kalm could co-operate with Mercian Airways for connecting flights to western Uletha for one or two of the hubs between Mercia and my countries? For example Gobras City?

I don't have a name for my main airline yet. I don't want "Kalmian Airlines", something more similar to "Lufthansa", but that requires a bit of brainstorming...

Anyway, here are a few hubs of my countries that could work as destinations of connecting flights from Mercian Airways in Kalm and Garlis: Tarott-Kelm International Airport - Kalm's major hub in Tarott, the country's largest city Nerschach International Airport - Kalm's secondary hub (not yet drawn, as you can see) in the north-west of Nerschach, the Kalmish capital Norad International Airport - main hub of Garlis, in the north-east of Norad, the capital Tarot-Hipplanken International Airport - secondary international airport in Tarott, also working as a hub for some airline

I would really like to co-operate with you here.

Best regards joschi81

Great to see that Malojdeh is already a destination! Feel free to include Norve or Ezajun in the north of Neo Delta, if you think they're interesting destinations, and also Taiago, in the Brugas archipelago, east of Suvuma! :)

joschi81 - I have added connecting flights from Gorbas City to Tarott-Kelm. I imagine a codeshare agreement between our two airlines would be in place allowing connecting flights to be through-ticketed from Tarott to Elmham.

deltanz - I have added Ezajun to our destinations! I think Brugas is a little far as I plan to only fly to one or two major long-haul destinations.

Why not a route to Elegantia / Aaby ("Zylanda central") in Zylanda?

There's a simple great circle distance calculator that you can use here. It's set to parse OFG map URLs.

This calculator from Paxtar should be in "Help and ressurces" in the wiki!

Ardisphere's airports are "open access." The 3 largest cities are Jeongto (JTS), Cerro y Casa (CYC) and Villa Constitución, which has the main airport at AAK and a new "regional-international" southeast suburban airport at JAM. This last might be a great, low-cost way to enter the Ardispherian Market and Gwynian Subcontinent.

Although its not shown on your map, Mahhal is actually not that far from Mercia, I don't think - the Mercator projection makes it seem farther. Mercia and Mahhal are both high-latitude, near-Antarctic countries. It wouldn't certainly be farther than the interesting regional connections evolving between e.g. New Zealand, Fiji and Chile. I haven't done that much mapping on Mahhal, but I do have the major cities and airports placed, including the largest metropolis, Derindonderak ZED, as well as Askendom ASP, Jwr Jwraom SIA, and the capital Rewk Mahhal RMX. There is also the Macao-like autonomous duchy of Tárrases TAR, which was the main "gateway" to Mahhal during the long "closed nation" period up through the 1970s.

@Mercia: Thanks! But a made a small mistake. The airport is called "Tarott-Kemburg", not "Tarott-Kelm". There was a name confusion in my had yesterday. Maybe you can correct the name in the map when you touch it the next time.

Sadiemarkt, Calliesanyo's Marderei Estuary International (ECSE/SEC) would welcome a connection with Mercian Airways.

ECSE is roughy 3450mi from ELMI, so it might be out of range for a direct flight, but looking at the route map it could be a stopover on the flight to Gobras City as that flight path runs just off Calliesanyo's coast.

Karolia is too far, but Mecyna's Canal Airport definitely should be on the route map. It's a major hub in the region, especially now Santjana doesn't exit there any more.

Regarding flights TO Mercia, Air Karolia might serve Elmham a couple of times a week from Santjana. JAT Arataran definitely would as well, probably more frequently. I don't think Mostrakago would be an important enough destination for Mercian to fly to, unless the two countries had strong trade links. It would be like Malta Airways flying to Tallinn or Ljubljana.

Feel free to add First Harbor or Ahagonara in Orinoco if you decide to venture further north. I would like Ahagonara to one day become a hub for flights to the new continents.

If you'd like you can add Ergolanyum Airport, plus it's within the vicinity on the map.
