Tenders Open for Saviso Cricket Ground

Posted by ParAvion on 30 January 2018 in English (English)

There's disquiet in Saviso at the moment. The city is due to host the New Ingerish cricket team soon, and they've nowhere to play! A city of nearly five million, and the Saviso Cricket Ground is nowhere to be seen! After consulting with cartographers over rum, the St Austellian government realised there's nobody in Vodeo who can build a stadium, and that foreign expertise should be sought.

I'm quite pleased with how Saviso is coming along, it seems to be keeping up pretty well with its more well-established foreign counterparts. And yet for the life of me, I just can't build a stadium. I've tried to design one myself, but I'm never satisfied with the shape or scale. So I'm turning it over to the community - who thinks they can build a worthy stadium for Saviso? I'm intending on it being something like the the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with plenty of capacity and lots of room for rugby and football in the off-season.

As usual, there's a crate of Port Adelaide rum in it to sweeten the deal.

Location: Oldfield, Saviso, Saviso City, Vodeo

So the cricket ground is gone?

No, there's just a provisional square to give an idea of where it might go. There never was a stadium there, just a blank square.

Yeah ovals are really hard to build, I have tried a method of multiple circles and some lines to connect them, which is a pretty hit and miss, however, the grandstands are just really hard to make look realistic.

Also, Saviso is amazing.

A blank square? So are you building it now?

No, I've given up trying. That's why I've opened it up to see if anyone wants to put their skills to use.

Hm...trying that again: Saviso Cricket Ground

(And here's a dropbox link in case I've failed again. Once again wishing it were possible to edit or delete previous comments, or at least preview new ones...)

Not bad, what purpose do those 'wings' serve? Also, there is a preview button next to the comment box beneath the markdown information, I find it most useful when checking I've done links and pictures correctly.

LOL...good god, there is indeed a button that says "PREVIEW" in giant letters. That's fairly embarrassing.

Moving on.......

The 'wings' are meant as a structural element from which a roof can be extended during inclement weather...I had in mind the types of fancy pants iconic-y roofs that seem to be so popular in modern stadium design. Here's the closest corollary I could find via a super quick Google image search:

But if you just want a classic oval, I can easily chop them off. :)

I'm not sure about the curved wings, but straight-edged ones like in the picture look much nicer. It means we can have year-round cricket and rugby, which is great for pay TV subscriptions, and not so great for people who aren't into sport (like me).

Let me know if this is more to your liking and I'll upload it to the Saviso site. It's drifting alongside the Col River in Patermas for now so I could make sure I got everything right in JOSM and wouldn't muck up your city. Still learning my multipolygons. ;D
