Welcome! You can experiment with mapping in the unmapped areas of the free territories, marked blue in the overview map: http://wiki.opengeofiction.net/wiki/index.php/OGF:Territories#Overview_Map

Before mapping very much, I recommend you take time to read the FAQ in the wiki and to study different mappers' work in the owned territories (blue territories are not the best examples of good mapping).

Don't hesitate to ask for help or advice. Happy mapping! :)

Well, start mapping in any of the blue countries on the overview map. I recommend mapping in either Mecyna, West Commonia or Gobrassanya.

Create a small town, or take on an incomplete town and start working on it. Read on how to make realistic towns and cities. Or create a neighbourhood in a big city? There are many things to do in blue territories, but please respect other people's work. (don't do too many major changes in the country like deleting towns or drawing new and extensive motorways)

@ Lemonking I quite beg to differ. Gobrassanya is one of the best places for realistic mapping, despite the fact that it is blue.

@zhenkang You're right about Gobrassanya, it stands out as much more realistic than e.g. Commonia or Midstland, which are more sandbox-like areas. My remark was meant to be a rough generalization about blue areas compared to owned ones; the whole picture is, of course, more complex.

@campbt Well, I see you are editing in Commonia, creating a new town. Well, I must say the road network is not that good. I'd rather if you connect up the secondary roads first to form one main road through the city. And remember to add the tag building=yes for like the supermarket or the museum.
