Names for the waters surrounding Antarephia

Posted by newflanders on 10 September 2017 in English (English)

Hi everyone, I have updated the political map of Antarephia , but there is still some unnamed geographical places, like the bays and gulfes around the mainland. Looking throughout different wiki pages I've found a couple but many are still missing.

I've proposed for example Calliesanyo Bay for the waters bording Kalisaanyo in the South as it seems to be an important country of that region. But that can be changed.

That could be good to fix and make a map showing the names of the waters around Antarephia, because enven if Countries name can change with time, the name of the waters can tell an history of the regions like the Andover Gulf. Cheers !

Hello, newflanders!

We are working on the coastline of Nalkor-Kochi. Most bays, gulfs are still unnamed on the map, but these will soon be added as long as the coastline is updated. We propose to name this strait as "Strait Trinity", since it connects a small bay to the east, the Asperic Ocean to the northwest and the Calliesanyo Bay (by the way, nice suggestion) to the southeast.

A small remark about your suggestion: it is known to be quite hard to distinguish a bay to a gulf, but wouldn't the Calliesanyo Bay be large enough to be called as a gulf instead?

Yours sincerely,

Louis Caseneuve Irjan PR - Ministry of Communications

You're right [[MrOobling]] I didn't check its position before updating. It was there on the last one but, in deed, it's not the correct location. I'll change it on the next one. Louis I like the name of Strait Trinity, that sounds nice. Regarding Bay and Gulf terms I guess there's not a big difference, on Earth you have bays bigger than gulfs and seas smaller than bays. Also according the language a bay is called gulf and vice versa (ex. Golfe de Gascogne / Bay of Biscay) but I agree with you for me a gulf is wider than a bay but I think we generaly choose what sounds better.

Thanks for the comments.

  • Ilseykia (marked next to Aiau) is a lost country I think. Also the peninsula cominf from Aiau towards Pasalia's peninsula is no longer there.
  • Kalisaanyo calls its bay "Zii Byriya Dashkar", which translates to "West Byria Sea". Calliesanyo Bay (or "Chusii Kalisaanyo" in the Byri language) sounds strange, translating as "Holy Grassland Bay"; although there's nothing to say that the Ingerish or whoever named things 'internationally' would have chosen to ignore what the natives called it.
  • Suggestion for the strait between Freliberia and Kalisaanyo as "Strait of Savohaan" from the former kingdom of the same name on the Kalisaanyo side (now Savohaan and New Slanshire prefectures)

I know Tiey (my territory) and Mahal have been redrawn pretty substantially, so their outlines on the current map aren't accurate either (that's why Tarrases and Kezepolan are also not in the right positions). I don't know if Luciano has finished changing the geography in Mahal though so I'm not sure if it's worth fixing that on your map and then having to fix it again later.
