A potential way to have an objective opinion about your own mapping

Posted by tule00 on 14 November 2017 in English (English)

Hey everyone,

You know how people say that you should look at your own painting in the mirror so you could know if it's good? Well, I tried to do that with OGF maps, like this: Igwepir flipped

This way, you won't recognize your own maps, so it will be easier to tell if it's good.

What do you all think about this?

Edit: the point is that if you can't look at your own maps objectively, a mirrored image could help you have a different perspective.

It honestly makes me a little dizzy, probably because of the backwards letters. So yeah, not very helpful for me.

I don't understand the point you are trying to make here. It is simply a joke, or do you mean that a realistic map will look as good mirrored?

I have another idea in that case - you could invert the whole map in JOSM and then render it in Maperitive.

This is what many artists do - a change in the angle you’re viewing your work at (i.e. flipping it upside down) will shift your perspective because you won’t instantly recognize everything. In turn, it will help you notice small, odd details that might look fine otherwise.

Don’t know why you got such a reaction, it’s a simple thing, really, and I recommend doing it from time to time.

Exactly! That's just why I posted this.

An easier way to rotate the view is to go into settings -> display -> orientation

definitely a good technic, it is a good way to change the point of you upon your work. I do it too and it works well. Good advice !
