Countries that did large scale colonization?

Posted by Ernestpcosby on 23 April 2017 in English (English)

What countries other than Ingerland were big colonizers? Especially those who might be likely to have had some major colonies in Antarephia and Tarephia?

I ask mainly because of the Woolonia project, which as I mentioned a while back is getting redone. The inside part will become the "Land of the Woolen" nation that will be mostly untouched and undeveloped, but the coast will become a colonized "Woolonia" nation that is more modern (though not super duper modern) with a couple cities and such. I was hoping to find another country other than Ingerland to have been the colonizer.

There is a proposal that Commonia attempted to start colonisation sometime during the first half of the 20th century. Agarderia was under Commonia as a protectorate for about a year in 1945-46. Commonia also attempted to take over Glaster but ultimately failed. I have made an unofficial overwikified version of this proposed history on my sandbox page. I have also noticed that Charlottesburg was an exclave of Commonia for a while, which may be related to colonisation.

As with all other Commonia-related articles, this is merely a proposal and will be subject to change in the future. Writing Commonian history seems a very interesting task to explore.

There's always Andy's countries in north-west Uletha. Particularly Ingerland. As far as I can tell he's always been happy to have them play parts in colonial narratives.

Thanks guys. And good point, @Myrcia, the other 4 seem equally open (I had been told before that was partially for the purpose of having loose histories for colonies...) It would be interesting to do the modern Woolonia as a Gaerman speaking former colony of Schwaldia... hm. But I'll wait to see what other ones people suggest before I decide anything. Lol.

I wouldn't say it was a big colonizer really, but Scandmark (another one of Andy's northeast Uletha countries I think) was the origin of the whalers who founded Østermark. And Orinoco's northeast islands also were partially settled by Scandmarkers. Not sure how many other "Skandisk" places there are...

Castellán was one of the big colonizers at the OGF World.

If you wanted an alternative Ingerish-speaking colonizer, you could consider Wesmandy. It's a small country so it would never have had a vast empire, but it might have had a couple of small colonies. The same goes for Cambric-speaking Tircambry and its pre-1748 states, especially Morionys, Rhysiog and Cadwynwg. Ionadàlba is another small-scale candidate.

Forrintia is also another coloniser, It colonised Drull possibly after the end of Commonian rule over the country. See Drull for more details.
