Radio/music playlists in OGF

Posted by TheMapper27 on 24 October 2018 in French (Français)

I've been thinking today about music in OGF. For example, if I would like to create a 1-hour long playlist for Lakeshore 103.9 FM (Lumina and environs), would I have to use OGF music (if any) or if there really isn't any music, just real life songs?

I really don't think so there are radio/music playlists in OGF. We mostly focus on mapping, and due to realism and no copying things from the actual world, we have to sacrifice few things.

You can draw some radio station buildings and transmitters on hills, and other music venues on the map. Perhaps this also informs other elements on the map, eg a metro or tram stop to serve a large concert venue or a statue of a famous musician. Maybe a wiki article on music and radio in your country too if sufficiently detailed.

I agree that this is really beyond the scope of what we do - however it's not inappropriate to bring up the topic of 'things that are important to a country/planet but that can't be shown on the map'. I really want Karolia to have the equivalent of Parkrun, for example, but despite having millions of participants the worldwide 5k themselves leave no trace on any map seeing as it uses parks and trails that already exist. I suppose the wiki would be the best place just to write about such things.

OGF ist geofiction - creation of fictional geographical entities. It's about fictional maps, fictional nations and fictional cultures. Music is not geography. Also the idea of creating fictional songs is just.. cute

As someone said a long ago, is just a cherry on a tree. Songs on media or radio can only be affordable if you have real budget to create a bunch of new songs or musicals, and can involve a lot of many people, and the most probably, is that you will need many budget, not mentioning audio systems, editors, etc. Also radio involves ads, news and even religious announcements, so yhea is a lot of stuff.

I have imagined how the Aŭstra public broadcasting (without an official name yet) could be and sound. It is possible to exercise this: maybe there are a lot of commercial radio stations in Aŭstraĉerfubo, between music, news and traffic reports; another bunch of radio stations in the other cities, radio beacons in the coast, shortwave stations, and things like that. And everything I can do is imagine, because it is something more complex and somekind out of the scope of OGF, but not less interesting. I don't know if someone has exercised this before, but you could place radio and tv stations in the map, draw logos, create slogans, and even composing example mashups made from samples in the real world.
