Several Questions about 1 year ago

I second what Halvarda said. JOSM is a more powerful tool for mapping and I would recommend it for anyone.

taking a break from OGF over 2 years ago

You don’t have to leave just because you don’t have time. I rarely edit anymore, but still have big plans for when I do have more time again. Just edit when you feel like it. No need to leave the community!

The first city in my new country! over 2 years ago

In my opinion the population size looks far too small to be considered a “city.” I think you should downgrade the OSM tag to “place=town”

An update on the Free Republic of Jefferson over 2 years ago

@Jamie Clumpas: Thank you! The airport is intentionally on the smaller side because the metro area’s population is only around 2 million. I think one runway capable of handling jets and one for small regional jets is plausible. This is also why the airport only has one passenger terminal, no separation of arrivals and departures, etc.

@Hilsonbergman: Thanks, neighbor! I promise I will eventually map some border with you.

@Marcello: I’ve been working on all of this since 2015, and I don’t think I could handle another project like a big state. That being said, if someone envisioned a small project for me such as a neighborhood or small rural area, I’d happily map it in the FSA. Message me privately about that. Thank you!

Alessa: I agree, when I was beginning to map my territory I started with Center City. I was not familiar with JOSM and didn’t really know what I was doing. As a result, my city’s main area looks terrible (in my opinion). I don’t know what I should do about it, it would take a very long time to redo the city center. That’s a project I might take on if enough people encourage me. I will definitely pay attention to my interchange size.

And as I responded to you in private message, the Free Republic of Jefferson will maintain its sovereignty and not join, based on its current political setup. However, an open borders policy is still in place.

Update OGF almost 3 years ago

Hello CharlieG!

I am also from near Philadelphia, I am working on a city that draws inspiration from Washington, DC and Philly at the moment.

I look forward to seeing what you end up mapping here on OGF!

Thoughts about lost countries and countries with unknown status almost 3 years ago

Hello, I have not posted in a long time but I assure you I keep up on reading diary entries. I have recently gotten back into mapping, but my neighbor is the territory of someone I know who has less time to map than I. This person has plans to map, but has not touched his territory in months. I would hate to see a territory like this get taken away and become green again.

My point is this: Each inactive mapper/territory has a unique story. I think it would be unfair to take someone’s territory away without giving them enough notice. Let the admins make these decisions with their best judgement.

Good luck!

Any truck depot examples? about 3 years ago

I am a big fan of trucks and have a few of these in my country, here you go:

Two competing truckstops near an industrial area I mapped before I knew what I was doing, but the depots themselves are decent.

Another truckstop near a different industrial area.

Great advice to great mapping! about 3 years ago

This post is almost the exact opposite from how I map. I like to map an entire small area of my city, naming everything, and Patriot City is a grid city by nature. It is supposed to be representative of an American style city that had most of its expansion around the 1930s and 1940s.

I admit that when I started the city looked quite rough, and I have strongly considered remapping the urban core (because it is pretty crudely mapped, I was not familiar with JOSM). However, in general, I do not agree with this post.

If you are a good enough mapper, you can pull off a realistic looking grid city.

Verisimilitude - how is it possible? about 3 years ago

Don’t overthink it, +1 @wangi

Who offers gambling? about 3 years ago

Jefferson will definitely have a gambling city, but casinos will be scattered throughout the country. (I love poker!)

I have a question once again... over 3 years ago

Use JOSM.

Wai Tong Project is moving on, New City, New Skills, over 3 years ago

Hey neighbor, just wanted to tell you how much I admire your work and even though I don’t map as often as I would like I am still working on building my country out to connect to yours. Great job on Cheung Kwen O and I really like your other cities as well! The high rise “estate” complexes look quite realistic for how I imagine Hong Kong.

Will the 'continent' in the west (where you can't edit) ever be editable? over 3 years ago

Our current landmass is barely complete anyway, I like the idea of us working on the first group of continents first, and still having a “great unknown”

Exciting updates in AR120... over 3 years ago

I’m flattered that Option 12 is even on the table ;-) but in all seriousness I believe for a US-style country that Option 2 feels the most natural. I can tell where it was derived from.

@iiEarth Just change the zoom level.

Klausburg: Becoming a big city over 3 years ago

Nothing but positive feedback from me. It looks very realistic to me, but as an American I can’t speak for the European mappers. Great work!

I’d love to see all of your streets “wegs” named, not just the main ones!
