Cuisines around the world?

Posted by austinhuang on 7 June 2019 in English (English).

I’m currently mapping a commercial area downtown and would love to see restaurants that represent different cultures. However, despite some detailed description of cuisines of several countries (like Kojo), there is just a general lack of idea of what people in each country eat.

I’m not encouraging overwikification here - As this is a necessity for commercial development - so, if you have an idea, describe your cuisine in just a few sentences, so that I - and possibly others on the same path - would get an idea of what restaurants to put, instead of just fast food, y’kno.

Some updates on the PTV + An overwikification clean-up bot?

Posted by austinhuang on 8 January 2019 in English (English). Last updated on 10 January 2019.

I have all kinds of busy stuff so I didn’t map as much.

Public Transport Viewer updates

(If you don’t know what PTV is, read my previous diary entry.)

  • Lines and stations will now render if you scrolled past the antimeridian. Especially useful if you forgot which direction you should scroll to see lines in Kartumia. (Originally, it’ll give a “Bad Request” error, as Overpass cannot accept East/West values outside -180~+180.) However, the map CANNOT include the antimeridian itself. (You probably wouldn’t do that, it’s just water.)
  • New ogf:opacity tag. Put in a value between 0 and 1 and it’ll change the opacity of all lines as well as all nodes of the relation. Defaults to 1.
  • More details on a line. Before it was like…

Now… (Shown with all available details displayed. Of course, it’ll not show tags you didn’t add, but this should encourage people to fill in details!)

An overwikification clean-up bot?

(No, I’m not replying on the wiki topic. It’s not like I have anything to say to that. I am following though.)

Anyways. Will you guys look favourably upon a wiki bot that deletes pages that fits all the criteria below…

  • In Category:Pages for deletion
  • Has only 1 contributor

…which account for a significant part (at least 20% of deletions include the reason “and the only contributor was ") of past deletions?

If so, I could write a bot in Node.js and host it in Glitch.com, then have the admin provide me with a bot account. But first I need to know if you guys would actually like it.

That’s pretty much it. glhf

Public Transport Viewer

Posted by austinhuang on 25 July 2018 in English (English). Last updated on 10 January 2019.

In this comment I mentioned that I altered the Route viewer to make it more suitable to public transit. Since it’s getting messy I decided to put everything on a separate diary entry.

Using the PTV

https://austinhuang.me/ogf-route-relations.html

The Skype and Share buttons are just there - You can adblock it if you want.

Differences from the original

  • No non-public transport routes - That means no highway routes, no electric lines, no ferry. Bus, Train, Tram, Light Rail, and Subway only.
  • Works from Zoom 8 instead of 10!
  • stop:1 (Or whatever number other than 1), stop_entry_only and stop_exit_only are rendered as stops instead of being ignored.
  • platform and platform:1 (Or whatever number other than 1) are ignored instead of being rendered.
  • Displays parent relations - That means you can see what lines are available at a stop/station!
  • Show lines of specific transport types!
  • Option to show 1 specific line! (Press “Reload” to restore to all lines)
  • More transport-specific details! (See Diary 2337)
  • Allow you to scroll past the antimeridian AND see the lines. (See Diary 2337)

Special tags

  • When you click a stop, it shows all the lines, with their background coloured by default. If you want to colour the text instead (Invert the colour), you may add ogf:invert=yes to the relation. You may want to use this feature to differentiate types of lines (Rush-hour, Express, Different frequency, etc).
  • You can change the width of your line by adding ogf:width=<Number> to the relation. By default, the number is 5. Floats should work.
  • You can change the opacity of your line by adding ogf:opacity=<Number> to the relation. By default, the number is 1. Floats should (and have to) work.

Can I improve this?

Sure, it’s on GitHub.

WEBSITE IS FINALLY HTTPS!!!

I just feel like this is pretty important for the security of all users. C’est tout.

Though, why is the certificate issued on March 30, yet the implementation is so late?

Happy St. Patrick's Day! But for OGF...

Posted by austinhuang on 18 March 2018 in English (English).

The places that St. Patrick’s Day is observed (Or holds St. Patrick’s Day Parade) does not necessarily have a significant Irish ethnicity population. So I wonder that are there any ethnical holidays that are observed through many parts of the world, regardless of the ethnical concentration?

To be honest, there are few dates for the people on the OGF world to celebrate. I think maybe we should create a Google Calendar to mark all these days?

Need advice on drawing large forests

Posted by austinhuang on 28 February 2018 in English (English).

Map

I feel like it’s a bit featureless, but I don’t want to be super dense as in this. Is this sketch good? How should I draw curves? Should I cut the forest into several parts? Am I integrated enough with my neighbour?

No stress. I’m not in a hurry.

New international organization for regulating broadcasting call signs?

Posted by austinhuang on 24 February 2018 in English (English).

I started a draft organization called IBA and I collected all the existing TV/Radio call signs. I’m looking forward to establish a standard in call signs of various stations. Though this is not mapping-related, call sign should be taken into consideration when naming HQ buildings for stations.

If a new organization is too much, I might merge it into AN-affiliated ITA.

Any suggestions?

CONTINENT FLOODING! in Gobrassanya

Posted by austinhuang on 21 November 2017 in English (English).

A huge segment of coastline is removed between node 8460513 (Meeonj near Artana) and node 36886472 (Attikai Beach in northeast Gobras City), causing a flood in Uletha.

~~How to undo an edit by someone else?~~ Someone did it

Also, it looks like this guy is frequently deleting coastlines.

Something similar to E-series highways?

Posted by austinhuang on 31 August 2017 in English (English).

Hello.

I’d like to propose a highway (Probably motorway-only) network like Europe does, except spur routes. Now the problem is that lots of roads have gaps in between and it’ll be hard to organize, but is it generally a good idea?

Realistic size...Need consultations!

Posted by austinhuang on 25 August 2017 in English (English).

Hello everyone / Bonjour tout le monde,

First post. I recently (not actually, it’s been a week…) claimed UL032 and decided to build a capital city anew. But I’m having problems with street block sizes.

Currently, the size is 200m*250m. I know this is a bit big but is it still reasonable? Places like Ottawa have 200m*100m block size I guess.

Thanks!

Austin
