Please change your JOSM preferences

Posted by thilo on 14 September 2016 in English (English).

I’m happy to announce that, starting today, OGF tile rendering runs on a separate server. Hopefully, this will positively affect application performance.

It also means that JOSM users need to adapt their imagery preferences, as described here:

Note that this applies only to the “Imagery preferences”. The “Connection settings” for API access remain as they are.

To ensure a smooth transition process, the tile rendering on the old server will remain enabled for the next few days, but expect it to be switched off in the near future.

I uploaded some content about 15-20 minutes ago and it still has not showed up on the map. Is this due to the new tile rendering server?

Yes, there was a problem with file permissions that prevented expired tiles from being deleted. It should definitely work now (tried it myself). If other problems occur, please let me know.

Performance is much better now. Many thanks to Thilo and all his hard work. And while I’m about it … thanks to all the other admins too, for all they do to keep this wonderful place going!

I noticed that the iD in-browser editor hasn’t been working today, is this change the reason why?

Comment from Inkyatari on 16 September 2016 at 16:34

I also noticed iD isn’t working, and Potlatch2 isn’t either.

Comment from thilo on 16 September 2016 at 17:04

The iD problems are only indirectly caused by the server change. To display the map background from the new tile server I had to make some minor changes to the iD Javascript code, and then thought this would be a good occasion to install a new version of iD. I was proven wrong. As if that wasn’t bad enough, then I had trouble restoring the old version, for reasons still not entirely clear to me.

Now the old version seems to be back in a working condition; please try again.

I don’t see any problems with Potlatch2 at the moment, though there might have been some temporary outages today when I was working on the iD problem.

That may be what was up with Potlatch…
