Hi everyone, Some of you have determined the population of an area. How do you estimate the number of inhabitants ? Is there a rule or something ? Thx !

A couple of different ways you can approach this:

  • Calculate based on the cities you plan to create. How many cities do you want to build, and how big will they be? For example, if you want one city with 1,000,000 people, three cities with 500,000, eight cities with 100,000, 25 cities with 50,000, and 100 cities with 10,000, that would give you an urban population of 5.5 million. Add another couple million for the rural population and there you have a number.

  • Calculate based on overall population density. What sort of population density do you want in your country? Is it very empty, or very crowded, or somewhere in between? This will obviously depend on terrain, climate, agriculture, history, etc. Take your country's area and multiply by your desired population density to estimate the population.
