North Archanta language translations

Posted by wangi on 5 July 2020 in English (English).

Hi, what was formerly Commonia has been divided into a few territories to try and get some language consistency. This is ahead of a dedicated English language blue territory as part of the Federal States.

The territory map has been updated. Click on the blue territories to see the theme and language. But the translations were largely on automatic translate results…

So, please check that map, if you know the languages and the icons are wrong - let us know here!

Expression of interest: larger Archanta territories

Posted by wangi on 14 February 2020 in English (English).

Hi, the following territories are currently marked as reserved in Archanta and I would like to invite expressions of interest in them (individually). This could be a single advanced user, a group of users or an experienced user looking to coordinate a collaborative.

  • AR043 (Deodeca) - western neighbour of four states of the Federal States, language would be predominately Castellanese/Spanish with Latin American theme
  • AR056g - landlocked, surrounded mainly by Deodeca, Federal States and Ardencia (plus AR056a, AR056c); primary theme would be a majority Native Archantan (Amerindian / Native American) population
  • AR063 (Xsegunis) - southern South Archanta, to the west of Ardencia; primary theme would be a majority Native Archantan (Amerindian / Native American) population, with consistency with Ardencia
  • AR067 - landlocked territory in North Archanta, with Commonwealth of Central Archanta to the west and Commonia to the north. Southern African theme (e.g. Namibia, Botswana, and Malawi), tying in with the Commonwealth. Some flexibility on the borders.

If any of these interest you then please forward on a more detailed plan for the respective territory to the admin inbox, being sure to put the territory ID in the subject.

Thanks/L

AR045 - South Archanta (south of FSA)

Posted by wangi on 4 October 2019 in English (English).

Hi, as part of the review into Archantan territories we are reworking a number of territories to the south of the Federal States. This is the area: https://opengeofiction.net/relation/1001

The aim is to create a single country where the individual states, or portions of them, will be assigned to users. The hope is this will lead to more coherent mapping. However, in a difference to the Federal States, we are keen to not base this tightly on a real-world country, instead having the involved users come up with their own imaginative collaborative country.

Linguistically it will be:

  • Majority Franquese (French) 50%
  • One of the OGF-equivalent of Polish, Czech, Hungarian or Serbo-Croat (Latin alphabet) as an additional official language 30%
  • Ingerlish (English) 10%, but only where already mapped
  • Indigenous 10%

The capital city will be in a majority Franquese province.

Two coordinators are being sought to help with this project - French language skills being desirable for one and the additional official language for the other. Please contact wangi if you are interested.

Existing users of those territories which are affected have already been contacted, with many signing up and a couple taking the opportunity to move territory instead. Other interested users please post here, or preferably, on the forum post.

Thanks/L

Commonia / Rhododactylia / AR001b / FSA Massodeyas

Posted by wangi on 20 August 2019 in English (English).

Hi, the northern most half (roughly!) of Commonia is no longer a “blue” territory and open to editing by all. It has been split into individual territories, managed per OGF:Admin regions. None of the new territories are mapped as “beginner”, as such any user will need to supply a plan for the territory if applying.

However another “blue” territory, Rhododactylia, has been increased in size.

Also beginner territories have been opened up at AR001b, and the Federal States Massodeyas project is accepting beginner applications.

South Africa inspired territory - request for proposals

Posted by wangi on 24 March 2019 in English (English). Last updated on 26 March 2019.

Hi, I would like to grant a large territory in North Archanta to two, or three, users for them to collaborate on a South Africa inspired country.

The territory would be within the boundaries of AR066 and AR018, although not necessarily the complete combined area.

I want the users to find each other, build up a proposal and submit that to admin (subject: “AR066/AR018 proposal”). Each proposal will then be explored.

Proposals will need to comprehend the complex geography and linguistic challenges of such a territory.

Deadline for submissions: Friday 19 April.

Thanks/L

World's longest bridge?

Posted by wangi on 1 December 2016 in English (English).

The 63km of Lonowai’s bridges / trestles (/ causeways?)! The existing set was recently upgraded with a new 25km bridge to Lito.

It’s not feasible, is it? Sea would be far too deep.

Albedeer Uni, Gobras City

Posted by wangi on 22 November 2016 in English (English).

It’s taken ages, but the first pass of the Albedeer University campus in Gobras City is complete… Next up is more shops & facilities, but that can wait a bit. And the far west of the campus…

If you know where to look there’s still a fair bit of the original plan by Wal there.

Backup?

Posted by wangi on 12 July 2016 in English (English).

Hi, looks like there’s not been a successful backup since Friday (210 mb)? Everything since then is around 170 mb mark, which results in lots of nodes, but few ways when loaded into JOSM.

Is the size of the db now a real strain on the resources?

Gobras City

Posted by wangi on 19 October 2015 in English (English).

Just a reminder that the building of Gobras City is ongoing. It is the capital Gobrassanya, and everyone is welcome to join in. The wiki page at OGF:Gobras City hasn’t seen as much action as the map edits - but it’s still a good place for some background and questions.

Recent development has focussed on trying to fill in the gaps between the suburbs and city centre.

Backups

Posted by wangi on 4 March 2015 in English (English).

I use the backups and then “cut out” an area to edit using osmconvert… But it looks like the backups are stale - they’re being created, but looks like changes in the last four days (or so) aren’t included?

Standard map style - airports?

Posted by wangi on 31 August 2014 in English (English).

Looks like something’s changed with the standard map style - airport runways and taxiways are not being shown?

Import OSM>OGF in JOSM

Posted by wangi on 29 June 2014 in English (English).

What am I missing… I’ve got JOSM setup per the notes in the FAQ. I can successfully download. I can successfully export the data from OSM to a .osm file and then load that into JOSM.

However after movign the data to where I want it now to be and trying to upload I get: “The OSM server ‘http://opengeofiction.net/api/0.6/’ does not know about an object you tried to read, update, or delete. Either the respective object does not exist on the server or you are using an invalid URL to access it. Please carefully check the server’s address ‘http://opengeofiction.net/api/0.6/’ for typos”

Merging layers is the same.

Ideas?
