At the moment I am mapping out a mountainous region of my country and as I was editing a lake with grassland into a large forest area, I exceeded the 2000 node limit. So, I tried to split the forest area into two to reduce to the node count, but I’ve obviously made a mistake and caused most of the forest area to disappear.
This problem has extended beyond my country’s’ borders so I would really appreciate assistance with this and I’m unsure how to correct it.

What you want to do is to split your 2000+ mountain area in two, and create a multipolygon with both ways in it. It’s a really simple trick used by many people in the OGF and other OSM communities.

Thank you, I will practice using this trick next time before doing it on a larger scale. Massive thanks to newflanders who corrected my mistake on the map!
