City Improvement

I am working on a city in West Commonia and want to build it up and make it as realistic as possible at the moment. The City is called Taimatsu. It is a Japanese city with western developments. This city started in the 1950s and due to low budget in the early days, all they had was a few stores near the ocean and a Bull Track to take goods to the stores and for people to walk on. I want to make the city suitable for 250,000 people. At the moment it only fits about 30,000. (and also has a restaurant that scams little kids by starting up outside the main primary school so kids sneak out of school to grab a burger instead of going to the cafeteria, but that’s for another time) So could you please do some development of the city, I need more built up areas. Also, how do I get my dot for the city larger?

Thanks, Tyrone xD

Here’s what I would do to make this more realistic:

Scale, scale, scale. Your city blocks are at most 100 by 100 feet. The bare minimum even for a japanese-type city would by 300-by-300, unless you are planning to make a lot of these streets alleys. Maybe use the OGF scale helper and compare it to a small Japanese town?

https://wiki.opengeofiction.net/util/map_scale.html?map=C/13.367879507610485/20.72404/86.71833&map2=OSM/x/38.88746/-77.02811&pxpt=0.277&scale=50000

Your stores should not be connected to the street, and, as I can see you’re using iD, you can click on the store and square the corners of them, as well as rotate them accordingly.

It’s also somewhat unrealistic for your mountain to be over 1300 feet when it’s only 500 feet from the coast. Expand your reserve as much as possible and maybe give the mountain a little less elevation.

And about the dot, Taimatsu already has city status. Dots larger than that are supposed to be for the one or two largest cities only (like over 1m people). If anything, your city should only be classified as a “town” on the map, and then it can become a city as it gets more developed.

Other than that, you’re doing a great job at starting your town based on its history, which I, stupidly, forgot to do. Happy mapping, and don’t overflow your city with motorways! 😂
