We should have a map pin for Border posts, or are the borders open?
I used a regular map point to add the borders like in here: http://opengeofiction.net/#map=15/1.3560/57.4085

Why? If there is no war, borders can be open 24/7/365.

I think borders are interesting. Mapping border posts is complicated because ideally you should coordinate with your neighbors, and decide things like: is there an open border (as histor describes)? Is there some conflict (active or simply cultural) that would make a more closed border?
Since my country Ardisphere lacks interesting neighbors, so far, I have been somewhat limited in drawing border facilities. But mostly I imagine “open but highly regulated borders,” perhaps similar to those in North or South America (as opposed to “fully open” Schengen-style as in Europe). I have made some efforts to map border crossings in detail, with customs offices, border police, etc. - I always cut all objects (roads, rivers, lakes, landuse poligons) sharply at international borders (to respect my neighbors) - so any roads or rivers I draw into my neighbor’s territory are separate ways which may be deleted or changed to their preference.
Here are some of my best-made border crossings:
El Alguacil (Guarnición) http://opengeofiction.net/#map=18/-24.24280/123.65972
Cruce de Monos (원숭이횡단) http://opengeofiction.net/#map=17/-20.78918/124.93557
Narao (three-countries border) http://opengeofiction.net/#map=18/-21.18922/121.33140

If one of my neigbours will an border-control, then he draw his side, I draw my side. If he will not deaw such facilities, there is only a small building at the frontiere for police and toll. Your border-control must not be direct at the frontiere. Between France and Belgium p.e. often is some kilometers of wood between the last control in the french village and the first in the Belgium village.
What with this? In the other land they drive on the left = [http://opengeofiction.net/#map=16/-11.3712/121.8371]

Distance from border crossing controls to actual border varies in different places. True, in the France-Belgium example, there is some distance. But there are many international crossings “tight” on the border - consider Tijuana (US/Mexico - the world’s busiest border crossing):
osm.org/#map=17/32.54403/-117.03076
Also, one I used to drive across regularly, Pembina (US/Canada):
osm.org/#map=17/49.00031/-97.23779
Others I have crossed a few times:
Laredo (US/Mexico):
osm.org/#map=17/26.09586/-98.27308
Aconcagua (Argentina/Chile - control facilities not well-mapped):
osm.org/#map=15/-32.8193/-70.0833
And of course, there’s the border a few kilometers from where I live, now, with some rather strict controls (heh) -
Famous Panmunjeom (N Korea/S Korea):

Not-so-famous but much more traffic, Dorasan (N Korea/S Korea)

I’ve agreed with my neighbours that we have an open-border and free-trade area, however that there is still the actual infrastructure on main roads. This is sometimes because the border is also a toll booth for the motorway. So in theory the border police can operate the checkpoint but unless there is a national emergency (oddly there are no terrorist attacks in Karolia, perhaps because we don’t bomb other countries to install puppet governments and get their oil) they don’t, and you can drive or ride the train straight through without showing a passport. In fact some Darcodians and Ispelians commute to work every day using the ferry and rail tunnels.
I also follow the practice of having one building on each side of the boundary, so that formalities are completed before entering the new country.

I’ve created a fairly large border post between the South Astrasian Federation and Triaquia: (http://opengeofiction.net/#map=17/-46.50101/139.36114). It is based in a very large part on ideas I got from a US-Canada border crossing (osm.org/#map=16/49.0020/-97.2362)

Not counting the one Histor posted, here’s my favourite border crossing station in Calliesanyo: http://opengeofiction.net/#map=16/-11.6871/122.0739
As I find these things fascinating, I’ve collected all of Calliesanyo’s border stations together in a wiki-list here. Its based on the Wikipedia pages on the US-Can/US-Mex border crossings and is highly unfinished, but I think having a reference for crossing points is useful.

That one’s massive. I’m not looking to make large/imposing borders, just a border post for customs and exotic plants :P

You’re probably after something more like:
Austria / Slovakia: osm.org/#map=18/48.12183/17.06453
Norway / Sweden: osm.org/#map=16/59.0969/11.2710 (superseded)
France / Belgium: osm.org/#map=18/49.97622/4.17431

Yes, like an international bridge or simple post with Duty-free shopping nearby. Plus, all my borders are located near tiny villages (so far).

I am working on one near a large provincial capital close to Riko.

Anticipating that Ataraxia will have regular controls at all border crossings (like the USA), not sure to share enough history with neighbors to have completely open borders. However, we will have visa waivers for some neighbors and reciprocating countries across the globe.
International trains can continue at speed to the “gares internationales” in select cities with customs facilities on arrival (Rouselle, Ybor, Landec, Élisabethville, EGN Airport in the Great Northeast).
With Wiwaxia, we have started to put some infrastructure into place.
The “Two Rouselles” border region has about 50,000 on the Ataraxia side, around 25,000 in the town itself, with 2 border crossings, perhaps 1/10th the size on the Wiwaxia side.

Since Élisabethville is the largest city directly on a border, I am thinking this combined border crossing-APAX toll facility may need to be scaled up a bit? http://opengeofiction.net/#map=17/33.43615/120.49731
A pedestrian-only crossing linked directly to the tramway network at Élisabethville’s historic Bel Est/East Point neighborhood, one of the oldest in the city, on a hill overlooking the harbor and Wiwaxia: http://opengeofiction.net/#map=17/33.45290/120.49139
Any comments appreciated.

I have one of the biggest ones here in Carante, but it is still only a simple border post: http://opengeofiction.net/#map=16/2.5060/55.9094
The interesting feature is that a portion of the city is on the opposing side of a reservoir and only would have road access to the rest of the city by me neighbour country of Riko: http://opengeofiction.net/#map=15/2.4527/55.8834
