July Challenge - Milaukáshka-Taxland-Metropolitian, Gobrassanya
Posted by Bstn on 12 July 2016 in English.I choosed the areas south of Gobras City for my “blue” edits because of the large amount of progress that has already been made in this area. My first longtime edits were in the areas of southern Gobras City, so I feel very familiar with the area and like to spread my ideas at this location.
Milaukáshka + Taxland took me ca. 15h of editing and there is still a load of things to do:
+ Zoning areas
+ Doing all of south and west Milaukáshka
+ Adding detail to Bellegarden Park
+ Adding detail to Down Town area (Maybe collaborative?)
My thinkings behind Milaukáshka are to combine old elements of a city (Old Town) with modern elements (Taxland).
What I am very happy with is the countryside east of Taxland, but what do you think about the progress made? Important for me is, if the size is realistic? (I feel like the distances are too small).
Maybe, you do also want to read the article about Taxland (More content follows soon)?
PS: If somebody is interested in helping me - especially at the countryside north-west of Ominoso - , I would be very thankful: Empty countryside Area! Also feel free to add details (e.g. gasoline stations, shopping malls, etc.) into the area.
Stay blue! :)

Looks good Bstn. I think you are right to be concerned with the scale - the features are too close. What I find useful is to really think about a street in detail… Often to the point i’m mapping out the houses and gardens, using a real world location as inspiration. That then gives you a good feel of the appropriate spacing between the streets. For example see http://opengeofiction.net/#map=18/20.69157/86.61733 or http://opengeofiction.net/#map=18/20.71402/86.68859
A lot of your railways & streets look like they do not reflect each other - pretty much separate layers. For these i think the question is - which came first? If it was the rail then your street pattern is going to reflect the railway alignment and you’re likely to have a bit of a buffer around the railway (not an ideal neighbour). if it’s the other way round then pre-existing street pattern would be interrupted, rail routed through path of least resistance. In either case you’d have a limited number of bridges/tunnels (they’re expensive), with most streets not continuing across the railway.
And yes - like the countryside!

With all the development it may be time to find a new home for the Omissino Bend Correctional Facility. Maybe turn the area into a housing development. I like watching Gobras City grow, it’s starting to feel like a real city.

@wangi Thank you for the hints. I tried to fix a little bit of the train problem. The little village State is a small example of houses i created. Of course not as detailled as yours. ;)
@Easky30 I do also like the development of Gobras City. Always interesting to look at the newest updates! Would be a good plan to move the Correctional Facility e.g. to Trinattati but it’s very dislocated then. I want to keep the area between Omissino Bend and Milaukáshka countryside-like.

I think Omissino Bend Correctional is fine where it is - these things often get caught up by urbanisation!
Have been thinking it would be good to have a Gobras City Green Belt to have a firm delineation?
Bstn - i’m thinking about merging the MTR and your Marangai Expressway into a combined “SW Express” toll scheme. But with the majority of it under construction, what are your thoughts?

Easky, have you thought about golf course(s) in amongst Sanavir?
Comment from Bstn on 14 July 2016 at 11:47
I have also the thoughts for an outer greenbelt for Gobras City.

A golf course throughout Sanavir isn’t a bad idea. I’ve never played golf in my life but they are a lot of fun to design. I’d like to think of Gobras City as a major golfing center. I’d like to add some references to the former university and oil fields that were there before. A greenbelt would be great. Maybe some passenger car only parkways. I would still like to add a few more military bases as well.

Maybe a parkway that follows the Palaconsino River and connect that to other greenbelts. @Wangi As far as the prison goes your right. Here in New York we have Rikers Island in the middleof New York City and Ossining up the river in Westchester which would be similar to our location outside of Gobras City. I’d like to think there is not much crime in Gobras City but jails are another facility like military bases that i like to draw.
