"Map Porn" on Facebook - maybe a good place to look for intersted mappers?
Posted by EMKLI on 15 December 2016 in English.Hi there,
on Facebook, I’m following a group called Map Porn. They share Posts about maps and things about maps of any kind. Take a look:

Maybe we could contact the admin team and ask if they would like to feature OGF on their page. What do you think, is this kind of “active marketing” useful?

Absolutely, but I have two points on this.
Do we want an influx of people all at once? Is the goal of OGF to fill up the world? Is there currently a shortage of active mappers?
If we do this, we should have an admin write up a formal proposal, not just a regular mapper. I think this could be a great idea if done right.

@Thunderbird - excellent points. Right now, the admin team consists of approximately 1.5 active admins (the others are largely inactive, for whatever legitimate reasons keep them away from their OGF hobby). As the “.5” on the team, I don’t feel the admin team would be ready for a huge influx of new users. We need to streamline the process of granting new users territories, and we need to work out better ways of coping with “confused newbies” (who map in inappropriate places), among other things.

There’s a lot of interesting articles on the Map Port page. I have posted links to OGF links before to Facebook groups like Freewayjim before. I’m surprised there isn’t a OGF Facebook page by now or at least a private one. I’ve seen several spikes in new users and only a handful stick around longer than a month. This includes my brother & nephew.
