Many of the countries in the OGF world which were left orphaned are marked as “reserved territory”. What is going to happen with them? What is the purpose of that tag?

Given the amount of difficulty we have had in the past with users adopting large territories and then those users failing to develop them or feeling overwhelmed by the task of developing large countries, all the admins made a decision to divide many of the “free” countries into smaller pieces. This will also allow us to extend the number of possible users in the OGF world.
However, since the demand for new territories is relatively low right now, we have not been working very fast. Please accept our apologies for that - remember that all of us working as admins are volunteers and further, we each have our own projects in OGF as well.
Anyway, the intention is that reserved territories will eventually become “free” territories, but probably in much smaller pieces and perhaps in some cases with other restrictions as well - e.g. pre-defined climate, language, or other constraints.
