I am glad to see others thinking this. To be honest, I had been thinking of some kind of “news feed” when I built the new wiki main page several months ago, but decided I wasn’t ready both as concept and technically.
On wikipedia there is a class of articles about “current events” which I think could serve as a model.
I wonder what other people have been thinking. Thanks for this post. Let’s brainstorm a bit.
I really like the idea of adding a section for news stories on the OGF Wiki, rather than posting them in the User Diaries section. That will make some room for questions and support in the User Diaries section.

Oh good, I’m not the only one. I enjoy the fictional news, but the diaries I generally use for looking at other’s questions and other’s answers, mainly to aid me in my own endeavors.
I always thought there could be categories for the diaries, with items associated to a news one only being visible if you were to view from that category only.
The Special Pages in the Wiki seem to be running filters to display pages with specific criteria. If there was a way to tag Wiki articles with a tag, or using a news template, for example, and then have a page that displays those by most recent date, that might be a solution.
And then display part of that page on the main Wiki page? Last 4-5 stories, with links to the full story.
Throwing ideas out, since I don’t know what’s technically feasible.
My example open bracket NEWSFEED closed bracket was removed from my post. Should have read: “If there was a way to tag Wiki articles with a <NEWSFEED> tag…”
I think we need a mediawiki extension on the wiki called Extension:News - this would allow us to use special categories to present news article adds and edits on the wiki, maybe in a special sub-page transcluded onto the main page. That seems the ideal arrangement, and keep these user diaries for “meta” discussions and out-of-world stuff.
We could almost do it without the extension, but it would require some complicated category tagging with embedded dates or something to get it to present correctly.

How about adding a ‘World News’ button on the main ribbon?
Or maybe something Twitter-like with a limit on the number of words and how often a user can post?

I completely agree - the out-of-world discussion and the in-world news are both good, but should be separate.
