Potlatch 2- any plan for death of Flash support?
Posted by Ernestpkirby on 26 January 2020 in English.I know Adobe is basically killing off Flash and Flash browser support later this year. I wanted to ask, I’d presume it’s not run/coded by anyone on OGF, but do we know if there’s any sort of transition plan for Potlatch 2 or a similar replacement since it basically runs on Flash? I know that some formerly Flash-reliant programs are were switching to HTML or something that is still supported, but I haven’t seen anything like that for Potlatch 2 when I looked it up.
Keep in mind I DO USE JOSM FOR MOST EDITS. So this isn’t the time to respond “you should be using JOSM and you wouldn’t have this problem”. There are just certain functions I find easier to use Potlatch 2 for, especially with quick edits where I can easily compare scale between tabs, and sometimes JOSM snaps to things in a way that can make it harder to get the “loose precision” I need at times. It’s just a nice option to have.

So far as I know did Potlatch2 not run with Firefox. Firefox will not more support Flash because security-problems. Therefore I use since then ID. For quick edits in detailled mode I think, ID is better to handle as Podlatch2. Sure Podlatch2 has some features, missing at ID - but vice-versa

@histor I’ve mainly been using Edge, Opera, and Chrome, which all seem to support it, but they’re all going to stop supporting it this year. I like iD for very detailed edits but once I get down to that size I find myself just using JOSM a lot of the time unless it’s turn restrictions or something.

i’m a P2 user on Firefox - as JOSM is blowing up my old graphics card frequently. It works fine, I like the interface and although I understand Mozilla et al for blocking Flash due to security issues (I have Flash blocked by default), I applaud Adobe for finding a workaround. Phew.
