Developing a new capital: Brig

Posted by Jumbooo on 12 May 2018 in English (English)

Hi everyone,

a new diary entry to share with you the first steps of the creation of the capital city of my territory (Brennland): Brig. Brig will have a population of about 800.000 inhabitants and is inspired by historic European cities, like Wien, Budapest, etc . What you see is a small part of the historic city (the centre, which will be huge). The city will have 4 or 5 underground lines, 2 rail stations, an airport (now roughly sketched) and an airport rail link. Let me know what you think of my city so far, if you please. Happy mapping to everyone!

Location: 61,179, 54,600

Hey, Jumboo,

The center part looks good so far! I like the details you're doing with the historic area. However I think your scale might be off by just a little bit. Things feel- maybe one or two zooms too big in size. I might be wrong though so I'd get a second opinion.

Nice, detailed work so far! I'm curious to see your city develop, especially as it is relatively close to my country Bloregia and meant to be about the same size as its capital Blöndel. I agree with Ernestpcosby, the old town buildings and especially the pedestrian zone look quite large. The riverbank area further south, however, seems to be perfectly in scale.

So far the mapping is quite fragmentary, so it is hard to get the big picture of how the city layout is meant to be. Do you have a preliminary sketch of the city as a whole? It might be wise to map the older main roads and some topography of the larger area as a skeleton upon which to keep building the city. It would make it easier to make a realistic city map.

Happy mapping! :)

Hi, Thank you for your comments. Yes, some of the buildings in the northern part of the centre are a little too big, I will rescale them soon. And yes, I have a hand drawn sketch of the city, and it's quite detailed. I'm trying to follow that sketch quite closely. I'm gonna map three low hills just outside the centre, that will shape the rest of the city.
