How about a video conference? I think it would be fun to get to better know some people around here.

A video conference sounds a little too official to me. I would love to have a chat room with other mappers though (like a WhatsApp group or whatever messaging app everyone uses).

@stjur Not a conference, obviously, but just like a once a month (@bhj867) video chat. It happened back when i was in micronationalism, and i started treating those people like internet friends, not just work cooperators.

I don’t oppose this idea though. I actually liked the chat we had on Discord too, before it got ruined. (However I don’t like Whatsapp so maybe let’s try to avoid that.)

But then also, when would the chat session(s) take place? Because there’s OGF all around the globe and finding a time that suits everyone could be hard.

^ Im not telling a new Discord is a bad idea… but its a bad idea. Although a video chat would be nice. I’d participate but only if I won’t be busy at the time doing stuff or sleeping.

I dream of a web-chat client where you authenticate with your OGF-credentials via OAuth… But that probably won’t happen because i’m not a programmer at all (but i can provide server resources, if anyone wants to tackle that problem)

OGF video chat has been done before, and anyone who’s interested is welcome to do it again. Please understand that such a forum will be inaccessible for a significant number of users, so it should not be used for any kind of decision making, etc. Happy chatting.

There was a video chat a year or two ago between two or three of us. As mentioned, the main obstacle is working round international time differences.

I might take part in a Skype or Hangouts chat if the time is right.

I wonder whether more focussed chats might be worthwhile, between people in a particular OGF region or collaborating on a specific country. But these still couldn’t be “official” or decision-making, unless everyone involved is able to take part.
