Feedback on Plans

Posted by Litvania on 2 November 2017 in English (English)

Hi, sorry for posting two a day, I can't delete diary entries even if they're mine.

I just wanted to ask fellow mappers for feedback on my lastest drawing, which will hopefully enter the map soon. It is meant to be a post socialist housing project with an ancient monastery in the middle of it south of the Lorava river, and has been partly started here.

I drew the river completely wrong, I know I'll have to put something there as well.

Tell me whats missing, what i should make more realistic and so on...

I find it really good with plenty of details everywhere.

Well done with the railway lines and the stations, generally good scale and realistic curves and platform lengths. Maybe both stations are a bit to close, and Lorava Stare Mesto station platforms and rail positions could be improved.

In Stare mesto the shapes of some buildings are quite odd, but that would be the only thing that I could complain about the town itself.

Looks really good. I love the idea of having the monastery in the centre of the housing estate. Maybe mix up the rows of housing with a few tower blocks and make a 'green link' between the river and the park around the monastery. You'd know best about this but it looks a bit 'social democratic' rather than 'state Socialist' if that's what you're going for. Perhaps there should be a central avenue or square that's a bit ridiculously over-scaled. The difference between say Warsaw suburbia and Stockholm.

That said I know you put a lot of thought into these things so I'm sure you've already thought all this through!

What intrigues me: two stations so close ? Lacking knowledge of your language I may miss a clue here, however. Love the traverser in your railward yard, btw. Engine servicing, I suppose ? A detail I have not seen yet on OGF (turntables and roundhouses I did). Brilliant.

@Myrcia, these suburbs (well, these are not really suburbs but pretty dense neighbourhood of four to seven stages blocks) in Warsaw has nothing to do with communism or even socialism. In fact they were built about five to ten years ago (when we had right or centre-right government). This central avenue is that wide for practical reasons. In this terrain in previous times were mostly swamps so they built the canals as a drainage.

@nehalem501 Thanks! I think the building in the Stare mesto look just like the ones in openstreetmap, so I don't see a problem with those.

@Myrcia Thank you! I'll take that into account.

@Marcello Thanks! If you wish to know, check this bliki entry of mine. @Eklas makes nice railyards as well if you like those.

The previous comments all have a point, I'm just going to add that for a neighborhood this large (assuming the railway is true to scale), there's going to be a dramatic lack of amenities.

All I see is one elementary school. I don't know how many people are represented by one purple square, but they're probably going to need kindergartens (that's MŠ if you're wondering), maybe a second elementary/middle school and a high school too.

Otherwise wow, can't wait to see it on the map!
