Question:
Do any of you have paper or digital maps of your country; or the OGF world itself, on paper or .svg, .png or .jpg files?
After looking at an Oxford Students Atlas i had the idea of having one for our world.
I know however, that our world is continuosly being changed, and is currently not even close to started. This would pose a problem, however i could update it time to time.
Your thoughts?

I drew some sketches when I was deciding a basic layout for Drabantia some months ago, but they’re not really interesting. I would like to make some statistical maps, but I have neither motivation, tools or skills.

I drew Glaster on paper, but in its previous incarnation it was completely different. It was in the Indian Ocean, between Australia and Africa. Glaster was separated by a shallow straight into North and South Glaster. The only settlements in OGF Glaster that existed on paper Glaster were Scotwood, Port Cover, Halton, Monksbury and Northweald. Aby was the capital of paper Glaster, but the role of Aby was transferred to Agarderia on OGF. In Agarderia the settlements on paper Glaster include Aby, Manking and Weerhay. In conclusion, my previous incarnation of paper Glaster was only transferred onto OGF in names only.

It’s a nice idea, but as with the real world a range of maps would be needed at different scales - cities and hiking maps at high scale to motoring atlas at low scale. Country and continent outlines to use for statistical maps definitely encouraged.
Nothing to stop you designing some covers for road maps in different languages and for different countries, though.

I came to geofiction through drawing paper maps - because I happen to be kind of old, and there was time when the idea of a digital, online map was just a dream. As a teenager, I created a 40 or 50 page “street atlas” of the Mahhalian capital, Derindonerak, modeled on the old Guia Roji atlases of Mexico City, or perhaps similar to the old Thomas Guides in the US. This wonderful object has been lost to time - I don’t know what happened to that street atlas.
In the OGF context, there are two ways making a paper “atlas” could be approached. One way would be to download the tiles for the area you want to include, at the scale (zoom) you want, and simply print them out on a color printer. I have done this a few times with current projects, to help me plan or organize. The other way would be to create specific-purpose maps as Sarepava describes, using tools like maperitive and/or graphic editor tools like photoshop. This is beyond my skillset, but I would be sympathetic to those wanting to attempt it.

I also came here through drawing maps, and I still draw maps very often. Just as Luciano I sometimes print screenshots of parts of the OGF world to work on them with pencils, as drafts.
I have about 10 paper maps of the whole country Egani along with 30 maps made on Gimp/Paint. 40 paper maps of cities, villages and natural spaces in Egani (1:25,000) and about 20 paper maps of places that could be elsewhere in OGF (also 1:25,000). I spend several days to several months on each map to draw every landuse, building and field.., but also I try to deeply think about how to make them always more realistic.
I found it hard to copy exactly my maps here even using JOSM, that I quite like. During the past 8 years I have drawn several hundreds of paper maps. During the past two years I’ve drawn paper maps of places that I plan to be in OGF and that might someday be mapped in OGF, but the majority of places I have mapped directely on OGF don’t have any paper equivalent. I think my country is both a paper country and a digital country.
I’ve always been interested in making an atlas of the OGF world. It could be a PDF atlas at first, showing detailed maps of the world and of every country, hydrology, topography, population, administrative divisions, history etc. But I guess that for the moment the world is not filled enough with quality content to alow us to do such a project.
However it would be super interesting to create atlases for countries that are completely filled and thought out as Khaiwoon, which already has many themed maps. That’s also why “side maps” are interesting.
