It wasn’t originally my intention to do this. But a comment that I made to a question on the wiki by user ernestpcosby and subsequent work in response to that comment by user zwinek inspired me to give it a shot.
Zwinek set up a proposal page in the wiki, which I have added to a little bit. Then I crafted a proposal for my city Villa Constitución to host the geolympics. In fact, I’m not worried about “winning” the proposal at this time… I set up the proposal mostly by way of example - I’m sure there are others who can do a great job with this too.
I’m looking forward to seeing lots of proposals!

isleño correctly mentioned serious copyright concerns with the Olympic logo and name. So from here forward, our competition is called “2016 Summer Geolympiad” and alternate logos are being considered. The format of these diary entries means that I think it’s easier if we keep discussion of that issue in the wiki, so see there:

Also, we should make some articles about previous Geolympics I think :) I made another infobox (love them, nice summary thingies) which can be used for those events.

Looking at how all future countries got blocked out of participating in the World Cup, I don’t think we should create articles about past Geolympics right now. Instead I’d propose a series of rolling “contests” starting with the present and going into the past:

Sorry for not being clearer. No one is actually blocked from participating, but within six months of setting up the World Cup table, existing users had filled almost every space, which makes participation more difficult for people who join OGF in the future. To help our world be more welcoming to future users and encourage them to join in community projects like these, I think it makes more sense to award these events over an expanded timeframe. :-)

Ah, yes. Too few space - too many countries :) But not every country can be in top3. There are so many other sports, like basketball, volleyball and so on! Football(soccer) is the most popular in Europe but as far as I know, ice hockey and rugby (football) is popular in USA so it depends on user preferences and his the country he lives in.

@wangi yes I saw that work in Gobras a long time ago. If you’re motivated, maybe we and/or others could put together a bid on behalf of Gobras City?

I think Gobras City would be a great choice. There is plenty of infrastructure already in place and there looks to be a lot of room in North Lamme for an Olympic village and other facilities.

Is it possible for a country to nominate more than one city? I’d like to nominate St. John’s City in Drevet to compete with Reback. St. John’s has a large sports park with plenty of room for expansion.

@PColumbus73 normally in the “real world” countries first have an internal competition or bid process to decide which city is nominated internationally - like there is a “first phase” and “second phase” of bidding. I don’t think we need to be so formal, here. The more nominations, the better!

Well, in Drevet, the north and south generally don’t like each other and are always looking for ways to ‘one-up’ each other.

Anyway, you can always set up a voting for 2 cities in Drevet and we will choose the one we like more, which will then enter the Geolympiad official voting.
