With the close of July, 2015, the voting closes for selecting the host city for the 2016 Summer Geolympiad (Pancontinental Games). The winner, with 13 votes, is Quentinsburgh, Freedemia. The runner-up, with 9, is Old City, Neo Delta.
User Ernestpcosby, the creator of Quentinsburgh, becomes the “owner” of the 2016 Summer Geolympiad page. He has made a commitment to work with everyone at OGF to develop a fair and interesting Geolympiad for all of us. Watch for developments!
Meanwhile, if you wanted to make a Geolympiad bid and were disappointed, don’t be!
We will begin to implement a “retroactive” selection of cities for past games. Over the next several days, look for a new “Talk:2012 Summer Geolympiad” page (which I’ll also announce here) setting up a proposal and voting process for those games. Hopefully, each month we can do another selection… as we work back in time, the bid process will actually become more difficult, I think, because we will have to think through the post-games history of the venues that we create. We can propose venues that have been subsequently re-purposed or destroyed, for example.
If we do a new “old” games city selection each month, that should keep everyone busy for more than a year or two, as we work back in time.

I didn’t vote in this contest because… well, it seemed to me like all the candidate cities were still “under construction” to some extent — both on the map and in the wiki. So for future Geolympiads (2012, 2008, 2004, etc) I plan to vote for whichever city has the most “complete” presence on the OGF map and in its wiki article. I know that this requires lots of effort and patience, but I’d really like to see more people focusing on the goal of local “completeness,” and I think it would be great if these contests could help encourage that. To that end, I wouldn’t mind stretching out the contests bit more, maybe one vote every two or three months, which would keep things busy until the next “real time” games in 2020, haha.
In any case, congratulations again to Quentinsburgh and best of luck to all the next time around. Cheers,

I’m glad that your bid was successful after the huge amount of effort you put on building the venues and infrastructure necessary for the competition! I can’t wait for the next steps of this event to take place! As for Neo Delta, I’m really happy I got to be a part of this!

Thanks to everyone and your support! I also want to congratulate Old City, Neo Delta, who also put in an amazing bid. I would be very happy to see Neo Delta win a past or future event. :)
And like Deltanz said, it really did get me thinking about the rapid transit system and the overall makeup and feel of my city. I have been working very hard to improve the area surrounding Quentinsburgh and the back story of my city and my country, and I guess everything is finally paying off :) Thank you again to everyone, no matter who you voted for, and to all the bids who participated. :)

I was thinking… since unlike the OGFIFA World Cup pages there are so many different aspects to be considered, how about making a 2016 Summer Geolympiad Events wiki page for info about the events and eventually the medals and winners and using the main 2016 Summer Geolympiad page to talk about the Geolympiad as a whole? This way the main page doesn’t get completely over cluttered with all of the information?

@Ernestpcosby - I would say, when in doubt how to set things up in the wiki, the best advice is to follow the example of wikipedia. There are a huge number of subarticles under the main article for a given Olympics in wikipedia (just look at all the linked names - names of teams, countries, athletes, venues), and I think we probably won’t need such a level of detail in ours, but to the extent we do have sufficient detail, I think the way we divide the articles should follow the wikipedia pattern.

I agree with Luciano. Ernestpcosby can take a look and “copy” something from real wikipedia articles. When I wrote the 2014 World Cup article, I took some inspiration in real 2014 World Cup wiki articles (in english and portuguese). Some users would remember, I wrote “almost” everything. I gave space to third place and final winners writting his own vision of these fictional matches.
Ok, maybe my article was more “easy” than a Olympiad article because I simulated all results (I love my PlaysStation 3!!!! hehehe) and was only one sport, but I still think ErnestPCosby can write a very good article.
A tip I would like to say: Use photos. So much you can use. I used seven photos (three by myself, four by my brother, who REALLY was in Maracanã watching Argentina vs. Bosnia and Russia vs. Belgium). Guys, I used photos in Macaé and São Januário as World Cup stadiums, hahaha!!! So, if you got pictures from some sport ground, it could help a lot in a good article.
For now, all I can think about is this…
