About 6 months ago I made the new “main page” for our OGF wiki. Since then I have updated the “featured” items once a week, every week on Sunday/Monday.

Based on some feedback as well as my own preferences, I’m going to cut that update schedule back to once or twice a month.

Partly this is because I don’t think the main page is really that popular, and is intended mostly for new visitors to OGF, who clearly don’t care about the update schedule.

Also, it is because I prefer to focus my OGF time on my own mapping work as much as possible.

The main reason I’m announcing this here is that I want everyone to know that I would welcome if other people wanted to update the main page’s featured items at other times. In fact, you don’t need to be an “admin” to do this work - I was not invited to the admin team until after I built the new main page, myself. Further, it would be useful to make sure there are other people who have expertise.

But I’d like to suggest some ground rules, If you want to update the main page featured items:

1. Send me a message first, to discuss the technical aspects and make sure you are up to doing so without “breaking” anything. I set up an OGF:Sandbox work area for main page work when I built the main page before, and if someone shows an interest in learning how to do the main page updates, I would be willing to resurrect that so we could have a “practice area.”

2. Resolve to respect the nomination queues as they currently exist - this is not an invitation to hijack the main page to show your own work.

3. Consult with others and do testing work before making format, design or nomination policy changes.
