New formation and urbanisation of Ta097 and renaming it to Alderon
Posted by Mikelatham on 6 January 2016 in English.I am working on a large city based on Chicago IL, New York NY and Stamford CT with 45 streets that are numbered and 16 Avenues numbered that will be a huge city when I’m done, I’m all so working on a highway system for that part of the country.

Straight outta star wars for the name, huh? :)
I also find it interesting that when you view the whole city it looks like you’re looking at it from an airplane because the streets become closer to together as you get further north.
Nice work!

As one of the volunteer admins for OGF, I would like to express some concern for the fact that you have never requested this territory, and haven’t been granted a right to edit there. Please take the time read our FAQ and About pages. In principle, what you have done is vandalism. In point of fact, we can probably grant you the territory, since no one else has a claim on it, but I would like to discourage other new users from this “squatters” approach to claiming territories.
Also, before you get carried away replicating Connecticut in TA097, keep in mind that it’s a tropical country, with your “Stamford” at the same latitude as Guayaquil, Equador.
Happy mapping.

Yes, you should be doing this is Commonia first. And big cities are a huge project that should come towards the end in the mapping process. Have you thought about the geography of your country; rivers, terrain, population, demographics, government, economy, climate? All these things will have a big impact on what you build.
Please consider not peppering your new land with US-style grid cities, in a developed capitalist English-speaking country with interstates and huge airports everywhere. I know it’s easier to create something familiar but we already have plenty of countries like this and it starts getting tricky to fit into world history. Wouldn’t you rather create an exotic land which doesn’t exist in the real world? New language and customs and culture perhaps? We need more developing countries at the moment and this territory is a perfect place to create one.

As Luciano says: Squattering is no good style.
Perfect is your city not = Your ramps to the motorways are not clean. The curve of the railway to the south is too small - let them run between 7th and 8th street or more to the east. Your metro have rectangled curves (8th Avenue) and partly only 200m between stations. A level_crossing in Dog Avenue? The airport only 2 km from the city? Afraid of fire? You have a lot of fire-stations. And too many motorways. I do not want to live in the heart of your city.
So I think, that Sarapeva has a good tip for you - start with smaller items. But if you will draw really a great city - see on OpenStreetMap, how the reality is.

And why you write always “XYZ subway station”? It is clear, that this is such a station. You make your town full of dirty lettering.

I would also add that we don’t have real-world brand-names. You’ve created Starbucks, Ford, Chevrolet, Shoprite, 7-eleven. Part of the fun of Geofiction is creating cities which exist outside of this world.

I would think you’d need to clear up your motorway junctions, especially on the I-53. Not every street should connect to the motorway-just the main roads and the motorway ramps should be a bit longer, or otherwise cars will have a hard time driving onto the motorway. As with what Thunderbird said, I also find it curious how your maps look almost 3-dimensional. I guess it’s probably the way you drew the grid!

Luciano is being nicer than I would be. :-) When I see a new user editing where they’re not supposed to, I normally move the edits to Commonia and send a note with links to the new location and the About page.
I’ve deleted the edits that spilled over into TA098 and TA099, so please try to stay within one territory. Thanks!
