Hi fellow OGFers,
Having received a great deal of response from my original suggestion, I am now proposing a time for a VOIP chat; this Sunday, 21st February, at 1700GMT (1800CET). This is intended for European residents. Of course, the time is flexible depending on availability.
For various reasons, I would like to use Google Hangouts instead of Skype for this. I think most of us have a Google email so you will already have an account set up. All that is needed is to install a <1mb plugin which you wil be prompted to do so. (If it turns out that we aren’t all on Google we’ll use Skype instead.)
Language will be English. Note that we won’t be making any huge decisions on the running of OGF, just to share ideas and chat about our worldbuilding activities.
Note that in common with most of the free VOIP services, a maximum of ten participants can take part, so we won’t be able to include everyone at once…sorry. Although there’s no reason why it can’t be a rolling conversation, and new users join as other leave.
Everyone will need to add contacts to join. If you are interested in participating, please add yourself below and then send me a private message with your Google contact (just so it’s not loose on the internet).

I’d be interested, and it looks like I’ll be free at that time :) How exactly can I send you my Google contact, is it just my Email?
Comment from Yuanls on 19 February 2016 at 18:42
I’ll certainly be interested in participating, but I might not be present, depending on the time. I also have the same question as Leowezy.

I’m certainly interested! I will send you a private message now. The time works well for me!

Is it possible to just listen?
Comment from Sarepava on 19 February 2016 at 19:31
All you need to PM me with is your googlemail address. Then I will send you an invite and once accepted we are set up.
Comment from Pawl on 19 February 2016 at 20:03
I’m interested, assuming I get myself set up for it. Haven’t video-conferenced in years (except at work), and haven’t used Hangouts before.
Comment from _zM on 19 February 2016 at 20:41
Ok, i have decided I won’t participate.

I’ve held off commenting on this idea. I thought it interesting but figured as a resident of Korea (UTC+9) I was an outlier on scheduling. 1700 puts this at 2 am my time…. Anyway I’ll be curious as to results.
Comment from Yuanls on 19 February 2016 at 22:52
If it’s a video chat I might have problems, as my internet is sometimes slow, but I will be fine with a text based chat.
Comment from Sarepava on 19 February 2016 at 23:17
Yuanis and anybody else who can only text chat feel free to message me and others your contact. Conversations don’t have to be conducted in real-time.

Hey, I’m interested, here in Brazil we’re just 2 hours behind gmt, so time won’t be a problem!
Comment from UnSoiDisantOracle on 20 February 2016 at 16:35
I’m interested if there’s still room!
Comment from Rasmus Rasmusson on 20 February 2016 at 20:08
Me too. Hangouts I know not, but willing to explore.
Comment from clik on 20 February 2016 at 20:44
I’d like to take part too.
Comment from Demuth on 20 February 2016 at 22:30
I’d like to join as well, although it’s possible I’ll have a conflict.
Comment from Sarepava on 20 February 2016 at 22:54
OK everyone, check your mailboxes for an invite from me (Simon). Let me know ASAP if it’s not working. I will be out a bit tomorrow morning GMT but will try to check things.
Comment from Pawl on 21 February 2016 at 16:10
Hope it goes well. I couldn’t make it today, but I hope to in future.
Comment from _zM on 21 February 2016 at 18:43
How was it?
Comment from Leowezy on 21 February 2016 at 19:38
It was fun :) Also it was text based. We didn’t “decide” on anything, but it was a general chat about ogf and world building in general. I think it’s nice, especially if you want to get feedback over a tiny bit that you don’t want to post a whole diary entry on, or in general just to ket to know people that share the same passion as you.
Comment from Rasmus Rasmusson on 22 February 2016 at 07:24
I agree, although it was a little bit chaotic (various subjects at the same time so that it wasn’t always clear (at least to me) who was reponding to who), but it was only the first time. Overall I’d say that it’s worth repeating.
Comment from Demuth on 22 February 2016 at 20:46
I agree with both Leowezy and Rasmus.
It was very fun, definitely. Lots of energy. Good that it was text-based, made it easier for non-native-English speakers to participate fully according to those there. But it was a bit chaotic and sometimes hard to pull apart the simultaneous conversations.
Most frustrating was that with a few conversations it felt like we were just getting started and then we got distracted by a new thread.
But I would definitely like to do it again. And I think it would be a very good tool for neighbors to discuss common issues in groups of two, three or at most four.
Three thumbs up!

If the chat was text-based, does anyone have an archive to peruse?
Was not able to join at the last minute. Hope to be at the next one!
Comment from Sarepava on 24 February 2016 at 12:55
As far as I can see it is archived on the hangouts thread. So I can do a giant copy-paste of the conversation and send it to you.
