Hello everyone,
I’m a relatively new addition to this community (I’ve only been here for 5 or 6 months), and I love working on my country, Sãikyel. But one thing has been nagging me for the past few weeks: Sãikyel has virtually no economy. With the population it purports to have, my country has to have a steady influx of currency and a stable financial system. I’m not aware of any natural resources that my area has (but then again, I’m guilty for not having looked), so I was wondering if anyone around southern Uletha would like to cooperate with me to establish some multinational banks in that area?
My plan is to have Sãikyel become the “Switzerland of the continent”, a small, neutral country with a large banking economy. To this end, I have already established a few enormous banking corporations (way too big for a tentative offer like this) which I have already posted on Sãikyel’s page (SãiBank, Sãikyel and Uletha Republic Bank, etc.). I might have been too enthusiastic, but combined, the Big Seven banks have a market cap of just under USD532 billion.
If anyone wants to help me expand Sãikyel’s banking system and make it go multinational, I will be glad to take you up on your offer!
Thank you, Stara Zagora

I think in general, Saikyel being a “Switzerland-equivalent” in terms of financial services playing an overly important role in the nation’s economy is something I would support. Some things to consider could be, how has it developed that role historically? Political neutrality surely is an important factor, but at the same time I could imagine that multilingualism as well could have played a role, or the strong emphasis on local political structures as opposed to a centralistic government. That combined with a free market economy and a highly skilled labour force should be plausible enough to explain a finance-based economy for Saikyel as you envision. Maybe you can lay out rough time line for such a development?
On another note, in 2009 “only” 11% of the Swiss GDP was produced by the financial industry, and that’s not even that much more than for example the 4% share that I found for Germany. So while you are right in that the banking sector can be the important “specialisation” a country needs to offset other trading deficits, one still needs to think of the other 90% that make up the economy ;) (And probably employ a whole lot more of people…)

I think things are looking very interesting in Saikyel. If you’re happy with it I’ve given SURB a regional headquarters in Myrcia just as I have done with Hesperic Bank.

I would definitely support such an idea.
