OpenGeofiction
So I was editing the history section of my country, and I wondered, how to make a history in OpenGeofiction?
What about empires, do I make them up, or do I make realistic empires that have existed before or something?
I also noticed earlier that my land used to be a province in a country called Picard, do I note them too? On another note, I was curious, what happened to this country?

On the subject of empires, there are some places where the continuation of a state as an entity after the empire has fallen isn’t really feasible. Take some of the artificial borders and nations in America, Africa or the Middle East for example. Most empires there there don’t really have much political connection with the current states, as any preexisting borders were erased and restructured.
A region, like Europe, has borders that are far more natural. Some states in Europe can be traced back hundreds or even thousands of years. I will name you all the countries in Europe that were never significantly larger than their present area (Including colonies).
Ireland, Luxembourg, Andorra, Liechtenstein, The Vatican, San Marino, Switzerland, Czechia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Belarus, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Finland.
This fits them into roughly two categories: Micro-states and countries that were part of larger empires/states. So to put it: Any state with a history that can be traced back 500+ years without much interruption could possibly be able to have a large empire. Take in mind the fact that you need to work with your neighbouring countries as well. It is possilbe that your nation was under occupation at one point, and an empire at another (Take Poland and Lithuania as an example).

Yes, thank you for the answer, but I meant, do I make empires that have existed in OpenGeofiction, or is it up to me completely to make my own history?

One of the basic rules of OGF is that you shouldn’t write about other countries without their owner’s permission. So I would understand this as also applying to un-owned or reserved countries, and former countries. That would mean that any empire that occupied your country before the current state could be only loosely defined, unless you got the agreement from other countries that it also extended there, of course. So, you can make up your own history, yes, but you can’t really make up wider history, without collaborating (this is probably a majority view in OGF, but may not be the only view). Does that help?
