Hello, I am alb120, Portopolis’ friend who will be working on the Northern Island of Lallemand. I am grateful for all the advice that has been given to us so far. Clearly the community here is active and very friendly. I will be working on The People’s Republic of Lallemand, a break away province from Lallemand. I have been working on 3 cities so far(Republic City, Novograd, and Port Arenas) and have been wondering if the blocks and building are up to scale. It has been slightly difficult to tell for myself, because I have been working on the cities building by building, and have yet to find another similar setup on the map. If anyone could comment on the size of the buildings, it would be appreciated.

If you use JOSM, you can see a “size bar”, dissipating any doubt about size.

Alternatively, in Potlach you can see a scale bar when viewing (NOT editing) the map. Stick a strip of card against the screen and mark off 100m, 200m etc for each zoom level. You can use this as a guide when editing.

The railways have some pretty abrupt turns. 50m is on the small end of block size but is still reasonable (the planned grid portion of NYC is 80 feet).

I always try to make my grid size around 300 feet per block. That is not always a hard and fast rule because you have to regard the age of your cities. If it is an older cities the blocks I believe should be anywhere between 150 to 300 feet wide.
