Josm Proportional Size Increase

Posted by alb120 on 5 December 2014 in English.

I have been working on the country of Lallemand, along with my friend Portopolis, and it seems I made city blocks 50 meters rather than 100 meters. I did this when I originally started OGF and did not really know what I was doing. I now realize that much, if not all, of a city, Port Arenas, is not proportional.

I was wondering if there was a way to use Josm to proportionally increase everything(except coastline, of course) in a city by 100%(x2).

The city in question, Port Arenas is here:

In JOSM, if you select something (or some set of things - so they are highlighted, normally in RED color) and then hold down CTRL+ALT keys, you can use the mouse to drag that set of objects bigger or smaller. So you could select your street grid and buildings in Port Arenas (select multiple objects holding down CTRL and clicking them) and then do that, then adjust your coastline to fit their new size.

I did the same thing with the city of First Harbor when I started OGF. For a while I wanted to fix it but I decided that’s just how it is. Some of the city blocks are only 50 to 100 feet which are smaller than some of Manhattan’s smallest blocks. As much as I try to plan out some areas things change and sometimes the mistakes give character to a certain area.

A bit of work, but here’s how I did it. In JOSM lasso select everything in the area that needs to be rescaled. Copy it, and then paste it to a different and empty location. In the ocean works well. Then delete any nodes and ways that were copied/pasted but aren’t needed and that aren’t going to be scaled (coastline, etc.). Clean up the old location, removing everything that will be replaced with the scaled up version. Resize the copy, and then move it to the original location.
