I don’t know about iD, but it’s fairly easy in JOSM.

You draw and finish a line. Then you start drawing a new line across the first one. Make a node out of the lines’ intersection. Select the two lines and press Q. Copy and paste them or create their parallels using one of the tools.

Just to add onto this, it’s probably not a good idea to fill a super large area with an identical grid system; it might seem like a very quick way to “cover” a lot of territory, but ask Luciano with his later experiences in Villa de Constitucion, and you might get some insight into why it might be better to rely on manually creating small portions of the grid step by step.

I have a large grid city and did small portions step by step. I agree, it comes out looking better.

I also strongly suggest you download JOSM. There are instructions on the wiki to help you connect it to OGF. It’s a much more powerful editor.
