New Project - Opinions?

Posted by hmniak on 21 July 2017 in English.

After being inactive for quite a while, I am currently working on a new country. Since I am still working on a backstory it has neither a name nor a flag. The first city I’m building is called St. Andras. It is located on a strategically important area with control over a rather big bay and access to the sea. St. Andras is home to a marvellous Old Twon with a completely intact city wall. Part of the city is also a sea port and various train stations.

It’s always nice to hear feedback so here are the coordinates. Come visit and let me know what you think. What can I improve, what can I add, what should I remove?

Thank you, Hmniak

The city looks very nice but what do you think about detailing the railways? About 70m is definetely too short for a train station platform, unless you only want very short trains to stop there - it’s enough for a three-part EMU, but nothing more. Also, I don’t think that trains can get through the curves in the southern part of the city.

Thank you, I’ll definitely look into that

That looks great, wow. The Old Town part is really nicely detailed. The railways and industries could probably use some work. The convention center looks odd too, but convention centers usually do look odd in real life anyways :)

Looks great! I couldn’t find any big mistakes, though I do agree with trabantemnaksiezyc that the railways could be improved ;)

Hey there,

I like what you built, but I got a few suggestions/Ideas:

I’d put the railway station before the sharp corner(about exactly where the supermarket is) and place the depot north of it adjacent to the tracks (Between Nova A. and Builder’s S.).

The city wall doesn’t have any gates or towers as far as I’ve seen it, adding some would look way more realistic, maybe add a little artificial channel near the western parking where there’s a drawbridge for pedestrians. I’d also extend the Sea Street and make a gate where it intersects the wall towards New Street.

Also I think the stairs to the wall should rather go parallel to it than in a 90 degree angle.

I hope my ideas don’t seem to harsh.

Kind regards

Martin

Thank you all for the great recommendations. I’ve already made some changes according to your plans. It does look more realistic now. Of course, I’ll continue to improve my city :)
