Gobrassanya terrain

Posted by isleño on 26 May 2014 in English.

I’ve sketched out some “forest” areas to propose a chain of mountains running across Gobrassanya. I think working out terrain early on is good way to establish patterns for future cities, roads and other infrastructure to develop realistically.

I also think it’s good to establish large areas of low density (in this case, mountains) because I think these maps are more realistic when they have a clear contrast between populated areas (lowlands, cities, coastlines, etc) and unpopulated areas (mountains, forests, deserts, etc).

(So for example, fewer cities and roads in the mountains, more cities and roads in the lowlands, just like in real life. In this scenario the proposed A50 and A70 corridors would probably be red highways, and the western part of the proposed A5 would not exist.)

In any case feel free to discuss here. Thanks!

it is a nearly philosophical question = first rivers and “montains” (what here is wood) or first motorways and cities / towns and the landscape smuggeld in the free space? So if I have seen here (and do it partly myself) often first were set some cities and blue lines for the cars. So you see something real after few moments.

But the better methode is, to draw first the rivers and in that structure the logical elevations of the land. If there are still no elevation-lines, in OGF is a probatly methode, to symbolize hills and montains with the green for wood and some peaks. If that is done, the traffic-ways can follow the land-structure and can junction the cities and ports.

Clear is, that the denser population is in the valleys and near the coast and that in mountains are large areas with no or minimal population. So the logical step for Gobrassinya is now, to draw the rivers between the hills.

I like the new terrain. Arrowic’s boundaries reflect the terrain a lot better and no matter how I plan it it takes on a life of its own. Gobrassanya feels a lot more interactive than Orinoco, which i plan on going back to at some point. I added a cloverleaf on the Central Motorway just outside of arrowic and filled in a little more of the valley in the northern part of Arrowic. Is the ulitmate plan to have Gobrassanya comprised of multiple districts?

I really like how this is developing, people are already filling in rivers and highways in the valleys, extending the forests/mountains to different areas, etc. It’s great to see different people building on it in different ways.

Unlike Khaiwoon I don’t think there’s any overall plan for Gobrassanya. It’s the Wild West. It may be tempting to pre-draw all the districts in advance, as we did in Khaiwoon, but I think I like the idea of different people establishing different districts as they please, gradually filling up more and more of the country organically until the whole thing is eventually full.

This is what I imagine the motorways in Gobrassanya to look like, maybe just a little more tropical. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C1yOC-BbyE

Haha, I’ve driven on some of those roads. Here’s a more tropical version:

Is Lonowai new? I just noticed the two islands.

The two islands have been there for a while, as territory UL302. Today they were annexed to Gobrassanya. Just thought it might be fun to see some of the islands start to fill in.

As far as districts are concerned since i created the Arcois, Gallitania and Grand Lake Districts, it hemmed in an area of land that I named as the Volantia District. These areas are all open for anyone to go and add content as they see fit. Specifically the Grand Lake District and Arcios Canyon areas.

I have created Grand Lake and Gallaton, Alora as shipping ports thanks to the shipping canal located in the Arcois Canyon and along the Arcois River to the port at Gautig. Please feel free to edit in any of these areas, just advise of any progress you are making. I welcome the creativity.

As for the A-70 corridor that is a long term proposal that will be revisited at a later time pending the need for a motorway in this area in the meantime a national red road could be located there. The western segment of A 5 is also a long range plan and due to the mountainous region may never likely get built, however it is still left as a potential future corridor.
