A while ago I described my (new) here-and-there mapping strategy. I still like it, jumping from small-scale general landscape design to large-scale details. Here’s one more example for the “details” part of it: Grümer Peninsula including many details for the small town of Elzburg, which is located at one of the northern termini of Rekant S-Bahn (suburban rail) network.

Beautiful. I’m still not there, in my own work. I’m sort of obsessed with getting the “big picture” right across large areas, but my “assembly line” polygon technique results in a dissatisfying result at higher zooms. If I wasn’t so deeply committed to the process at this point, I’d give it up. Anyway, I’m jealous of your instinct for realistic detail.

You know you can make railway platforms full width by drawing them as a polygon, then tagging railway-platform and area-yes?
I wish I could make countryside as realistic as this. I end up with odd-shaped fields.

Thanks for your feedback.
@Luciano: I can tell you, I’m really dissatisfied by the small scale overview of Kalm so far. But I’m simply not able to stick to small zoom levels, I need a nice and complete view of a certain region from time to time. So I’m approaching a satisfying result “from both ends”.
@Sarepava: Yes, I know about platforms as polygones, I tried it here: Mahnern Hauptbahnhof - and at many other places. But sometimes I put platforms as ways as a first (and in most cases satisfying) step.

I feel the same way about Pretany. I have ADHD, so it’s difficult for me to concentrate on a small detailed area for to long. There is so much that I can do in Pretany, but haven’t had the time or the concentration to do it.

Wow..just wow…. if you wouldn’t know its ogf you could think it’s just your small average north sea coastal town… I mean look at the roads…. so realistic and I’ve been in such areas they look exactly like that in reality. Really got respect for your work keep it up -kingfries

Nice one!!! I was quite surprised to see such a - kind of - densely populated island. However, I guess that during my work in frosty Nordurland, my scale for “densely populated” changed a bit… :D
I’m mapping like you. After I had “fulfilled” my “masterplan” of Nordurland with it’s main rails and roads, I’ve started modeling here and there, where my imagination took me. Do you remember the days before ISDN, when a picture loaded in several “sharpening” attempts? I think, this describes my strategy best. I’m working from large- to small-scale, and this is also how my learning process goes. At the moment, during the April “no roads” challenge, I’m breaking this habit and I force myself to build mainly small-scale things (like buildings, local infrastructure, etc. which is really new for me). I’m still surprised by the tremendous amount of features and tags that OSM offers - and how much infrastructure you have to fit in a city with 6.500 inhabitants.
