Planorian Enclave Citiy

Posted by plainoldbread on 10 July 2017 in English (English)

I've decided to use up the empty space and make towns, I have created Windham in one of the enclaves. I'm thinking it would have about 100,000 people living there, some old history of Planoria owning some of the land surrounding the enclaves, and some kind of city square to remember who protected Windham and Alligator Pond from enemy forces. Second one in location

Location: Ultra Road, Alligator Pond, Fyndarie, Planoria

People have been asking you politely. Please stop spamming the user diaries for very small changes.

Have you ever considered writing all this stuff in blikis? I'm so close from unsubscribing from the user diaries' RSS feed because every two hours I get another notification about another entry by plainoldbread or TheMapper27...

Please don't forget that everyone has his own project, so no one actually cares about the other's work as long as it can't serve as inspiration.

I worked on this city for one year now and I have not posted any User Diary about it because it's not finished yet.

With 20 -metre airport terminal gates and 60 (sixty !) metre runways I would be happy to recommend - both - your airports to the international airport authorities as unfit to use. Could you please get your proportions right ?

your international terminal is smaller than the bus station at Heathrow Airport and your runways are actually shorter than a Boeing 747.

please stop incessantly posting in diaries, I get a notification every time there's a new post in the RSS feed and I am sick of it being you with your continued poor quality mapping

why do you feel the need to continue doing this when people have asked you nicely to stop

I can understand critics. But come on people, who can criticize him for his work on some small territory while the Assembly of Nations looks like this.

While representative center of every OGF nation looks like this, his work is just acceptable.

@William you have to draw the line somewhere and I think it's reasonable to draw it in a way that says runways shorter than airplanes are not acceptably realistic mapping. There comes a point where mapping is so bad that it violates the verisimilitude rule and I think there are too many mappers who have violated that rule for too long without making any effort to improve. plainoldbread is one of those

I agree with you, but I repeat: if the representative center of our nations (Assembly of Nations) doesn't respect this rule - that is message for others. Additionally, why does admins give any territory to users who didn't manage to prove their skills in mapping during trial session mapping in Commonia. I am also affected by a mismanagement. There are large areas occupied by users which doesn't have mapping skills and because of that I'm waiting for over 2 months to get new territory because this one is not proper for kind of country I want to make (I can't make European-like country in the "New World" area.)

@William: If I may interject for a moment: Your frustrations are very well noted and shared by many on the site. (Myself included.) The issue here is not a single isolated incident with this particular user and his enclave. There is a pattern of behavior that is catching the ire of people. As for what you do with your country, I'm curious as to your vision. I'll send you a PM to keep this already derailing conversation from going even further afield.

A lot of it can be fixed through the process of reconstruction. In this moment we are all buried in the trench battle. So many writing, plans, ideas, wiki pages but no order, not even controlled chaos. Someone is deprived of the energy and good will or of administrative skills.

We shouldn't be buried in the trenches because there are several users who have good positions and are not willing to change anything nor to accept some productive reconstruction and restoration.

I understand also William, but too me when I look at the AN things can be improved but it shows time has been put into the mapping. The user of that country's also makes beautiful large scale mapping and much of Saint Richards seem to be his first real go at smaller scale city mapping. Me I am the opposite although my small scale mapping isn't special either. Plainoldbread has been mapping for months and has routinely ignored advice on scale to the point that he appears to be a troll as I don't even think my earlier work on this site when I was around 14-15 showed next to no improvement after months of mapping. As a child myself, I can already tell how plainoldbread will look at this when he is older (from what he said earlier I think he is a preteen or 13/14 range)The same way I looked at my mapping and comments made on internet messaging.boards from years ago, with a pained look on my face and a cringe so bad that I aged 50 years. I am sure 3 years from now I'll be doing the same thing at my comments and mapping today.

If I might once more add in here, I think it is unfair to label the site as a petty trench war. There is a lot of collaboration going on in small, medium, and large ways. One thing that we all have to remember is that OGF is an experiment where it isn't going to be a perfect, seamlessly flowing world. That's just not possible. There are too many variables, even among those with the most open-heartedness toward working together. Seemingly asking the administrative team to "restructure" the world is a bit off-putting. First, it places demands on volunteers that are not fair. Should some policies change? Probably. Should the admin team be evicting people left and right? No. Another issue is that we're all essentially doing this as a hobby. For Thilo, it's a labor of love to even spend the money and host the site. We all live in different parts of the world, have different availability, and different experiences. The fact that many of us do work well together is a testament to the quality people that are present. I'd encourage you to reach out to many of these very users. I'm all in favor of doing your best to work with neighbors and other nearby users. It's just not always going to work out. In those cases, I put my head down and focus on making my mapping the best possible. Maybe it's just because I'm (likely) one of the oldest people on this site.

I can't agree with Wiliam, because if I would agree with him, I have to disagree with facts, because I found very simmilar area in Istanbul. Yes, I agree that it is completely bad planning of the city, simply chaos, but it is definitely real (although I belive there are real world politicians, who say that Turkey doesn't exist). There is of course open question that we should map our cities just relistic or our cities should be well planned. I think we should find place in our countries for both "styles" to reach the realism.

That what did Plainoldbread is unrealistic, because it simply abuses the laws of physics...

Also I really want to warn you about changing policies for new users. Let me tell you the story of part of my internet life. Years ago there was a quite big Wiki, where people were writing funny articles (polish Uncyclopedia). We, the admin team, were quite obsessive about improving the articles quality, so we deleted a lot of short texts and that written in poor language and banned users who protested against that radical policy. It seems o be destructive, but we called it success, because we educated this few users, who stayed on the wiki. Few of them started proffesional writing (books and newspapers). We were very proud of it, but... When the seasons passed there were lesser and lesser people to write new articles, because newbies were afraid of radical policy. It frustrated us and led to internal war, which nearly destroyed the wiki. I'm afraid that if the admin team here start to restrict newcomers policies, there will be no newcomers, even if verification of their skills looks like a good idea at first sight.

One last thing, the assembly of Nation's building is a MODERN high-rise building, not a medieval cathedral, so I'm confused as to what you complaint is.

What kind of threat is this!? Are you going to sabotage me!? So that means there are some users who are protected from criticism.

Now when I know that the Assembly was mapped and is owned by one country I can do nothing else but symbolically withdraw from it and because of threats issue to you démarche breaking our OGF diplomatic relations.

Rule, Montran! Montran, rule the waves: Montraneses never, never, never shall be slaves. The nations not so blest as thee, Shall in their turns to tyrants fall; While thou shalt flourish great and free, The dread and envy of them all.

I don't think there's anything wrong with AoN building. In fact, it's propably one of the better areas of OGF as it has buildings, a lot of amenities and landuse and it's actually quite belivable. St Richards is overall developing nicely. As opposed to... some other places.

The vast majority of OGF users I've communicated so far are very nice people and great to work with, so I can't really see your point, William.

Attacking other users without a precedent is what 'creates a petty trench war' and in this comment thread, it's clearly you who's petty.

Minus the rude comment. I do see the new users grievences. Maybe we need to change the way we do things to attract and keep newer users. But we need to find a balance between that and decreasing the quality of the map.

While I shake my head at much of this thread, I have to admit my amusement that it ended in an embassy closure and a withdrawing of a nation from diplomatic organization. In this regard OGF has behaved in a surprisingly realistic way :)

For some reason he though I owned the AN lol. Its an international organization my country is just host too. So he basically pulled a north korea.
