Unnecessary boundary relations?

Posted by uslashcloudycandy on 12 May 2021 in English (English)

Hello, I am the owner of the country Rockland in South Archanta (AR050-16) and I've noticed two boundary relations marking the borders of the country: Rockland, 130251 and Slerren, 130260 .

(Slerren is the country's former name.)

What is the purpose of the second one? Does it need to exist? I've looked in other countries in the region and they only have one boundary relation, tagged the same way as Rockland, 130251 . Can I delete Slerren, 130260 , or does it need to stay?

Thanks, uslashcloudycandy

I think you somehow duplicated the country relation, so you should be able to delete, but I'd wait for admin approval

They're not duplicates, both relations have different tag setups, does one have more outdated tags than the other? Also I did ask admins but they told me to ask it here.

Hi, not sure whom you have asked because there is no such message from your account in the admin inbox, but anyway:

  • Relation #130251 marks the territory boundary, in other words the entire area that belongs to you that you can edit, it is the one that gets displayed on the territory list etc.;

  • Relation #130260 is a land area relation, so it should contain the territory's area minus large bodies of water. This is for example practical when you want to know how much land there is for you to "build on", when you're planning the layout of the country. However it is obvious that it hasn't been updated in a while since it contains the entire area including the two lakes, and isn't even tagged properly. See another example of a land area relation here.

Generally it is up to the territory owner to decide whether they want to keep the land area relation and update it. Since this is a beginner territory and should serve as a place where you can practice skills rather than being a long-term project, I'd say leave relation 130260 as it is and don't worry about it.

Okay, that makes sense, thank you.
