The World project

Posted by niels20020 on 5 July 2016 in English.

Hello everyone,

I guess some of you might have ever heard of The World archipelago in Dubai. If not, just check it out on Wikipedia and OpenStreetMap. It’s pretty awesome, isn’t it?

I would like to do something like this in OGF too. But it’s going to be different as in the real world. It’s not in the sea, but in a very large park near Balonis City. Every country (yes, literally every country, the unclaimed too) has a part of land in this park where its owner may build something. You can build whatever you want, but remember that that part of land reprensents your country.

So quys, what do you think of this project? Please tell me in the comments! Also, I need a name for this whole thing. If you know one tell me too!

Greetings, Niels

For now I’ve named it “The World Park”, but we could change it if there are better suggestions.

Comment from tule00 on 5 July 2016 at 13:51

Quite interesting. Although I’m not sure if 9 km^2 is enough.

Comment from niels20020 on 5 July 2016 at 13:54

Actually its 10 :p Do you think it should be bigger?

Comment from tule00 on 5 July 2016 at 14:05

I’m not sure, depends on how much space each country gets.

Comment from niels20020 on 5 July 2016 at 14:06

Well, you can see that here

Comment from tule00 on 5 July 2016 at 14:19

Perhaps that will be enough. I don’t know what could I build :p

Comment from niels20020 on 5 July 2016 at 14:28

It could be anything, but it’s good if it’s something typical for your country. If your country is very religious it could be a church, mosque, temple etc. It could also be nature that is typical for your country (think of flowers, trees etc.). Oh, and you could built some shops/restaurants that sell things that come from your country.

If you tell me what the name of your country (or countries) is, I can draw an area for you :)

Comment from Leowezy on 5 July 2016 at 14:38

I like the idea :) I’d probably build a replica of some Nekeze (Symvanist temple) on the Kojolese plot of land.

On another note, maybe you want to consider a different map projection than Mercator? Have a look at these somewhat roundish projections, I think they would be fairer since in the Mercator projection countries in the north or south are projected with a much higher area than they actually have.

Comment from niels20020 on 5 July 2016 at 14:43

I thought of the same thing. Mercator is not so fair when it comes to area. But the problem is, I don’t know how I could look at the OGF map with another projection…

Comment from Leowezy on 5 July 2016 at 15:14

Maybe this map can be a help?… :/

Comment from niels20020 on 5 July 2016 at 15:16

Maybe… I’ll look at the standard (on the OGF site) and that map.

Comment from niels20020 on 5 July 2016 at 15:16

Oh, and the plot for Kojo will be ready this week.

Comment from TRJ on 5 July 2016 at 16:33

I think it is a really fun idea. Will you build it in the actual shape of the OGF world?

Comment from kingfries on 5 July 2016 at 18:29

Sounds like a fun idea. Although It seems I was forgotten :p Sooo, I think I’m just gonna draw above AN150f and left besides an150b and leave some space for 150c and 150d. But yes, like already said, cool idea. Reminds me a bit of the World Fair Park in Queens, New York.

Comment from Oxalia on 5 July 2016 at 18:49

Nice idea!

What about the ocean areas? Do plan lakes at those areas? And “highway”=”service”s at the ocean shores?

If the projection problem is solved, please create an area for Maalfland. Thx.

Comment from tule00 on 5 July 2016 at 18:53

My country is Reeland, in east Uletha

Comment from Ūdilugbulgidħū on 5 July 2016 at 21:56

I like this idea - but like Oxalia Ill be interested to see how you’re going to fit in the island nations, the more remote ones. The allocated areas are very small, but perhaps it is best that way - its still bigger than my ‘GeoAntarephia’ park in Shadze-Ma, at least.

Btw I’m looking at this as a blue area for Luciano’s challenge!

Comment from Easky30 on 6 July 2016 at 00:02

Do you want us to add our own parcels our countries?

Comment from Thunderbird on 6 July 2016 at 03:55

Great idea! I also believe having smaller parcels for each country is better. It gives us the opportunity to limit our construction to something that truly represents our country. And great job so far! It’s really a small representation of the OGF world.

Comment from BelpheniaProject on 7 July 2016 at 07:46

Great idea!

Comment from niels20020 on 7 July 2016 at 09:53

@TRJ Well, it’s don’t use a defined scale, but the plots are a bit in the shape of the country. I use very straight lines as you can see.

@kingfries I just hadn’t drawn your plot, but it’s good you did it yourself :)

@Oxalia I think I will draw some lakes and use bridges. If the islands are so remote, we could maybe even use shipping lines :o

@tule00 I will try to create your plot soon

@Ūdilugbulgidħū Yeah, I think you could see this as a blue area :D

@Easky30 No, I will draw them. Some countries will have their plot earlier than others, but I try to create as much as I can :)

Comment from Pawl on 7 July 2016 at 10:58

Could Tircambry and Wesmandy have plots too, please?

Comment from niels20020 on 7 July 2016 at 14:20

Of course! They are here.

Comment from histor on 7 July 2016 at 18:39

Have drawn plots for Latina and Niulutan-Riu Islands. If are too big, please tell me - I will change then.

Comment from Leowezy on 7 July 2016 at 21:35

I’m not sure now, do we generally draw our plots by ourselves or do you draw them for us?… Still missing the Kojolese enclosure D; ;)

Comment from Ūdilugbulgidħū on 8 July 2016 at 09:02

Could do with a plot for Shadze-Ma too - keep it small! ;)

Comment from niels20020 on 8 July 2016 at 10:04

@histor They are fine, but I’ve moved Niulutan-Riu a bit

@Leowezy Actually, I don’t know too… I said I will draw the pieces of land, but some people just drawn their own. Anyway, I’ve drawn the Kojolese parcel now, you can see it here.

@Ūdilugbulgidħū It’s here!

Comment from Ūdilugbulgidħū on 8 July 2016 at 11:25

A 2m x 20m plot - nice! But I hope you don’t mind if I build something underground, an attempt to link up some islands? Shrink it or delete it if its too much - or if you want to make it less glaring, you could just remove the tunnel tag.

Comment from niels20020 on 8 July 2016 at 11:30

It looks great! Do you think we should make a lake where the tunnel is?

Comment from eklas on 25 July 2016 at 19:47

Count Drabantia in! Also place a service road or something near if possible please, those bags with potatoes (for the restaurant) aren’t gonna carry themselves.

Comment from niels20020 on 25 July 2016 at 20:30

I will add Drabantia next week, when I have access to a computer again :)

Actually the pedestrian roads in the park are big enough for cars to drive on, but they are not allowed to. Of course we can make an exception for your delivery vans. Btw, I’m also thinking of a shuttle bus driving in the park, but I’m not yet sure about that.

Comment from niels20020 on 1 August 2016 at 18:38

Drabantia is located here. A road will be added later.

Comment from eklas on 3 August 2016 at 06:59

Drabantia’s pavilion is now completed. The country thanks you for the opportunity to participate in such a project!
