Am contemplating establishing a shipping company to run a ferry or cruise service up and down what is now the Firth of Hetzer. It would start (or finish) at Solsburg, going via Ligota, Kirchenburg, and Koban down towards the shores of Vinnmark, Welsrijk, Tircambry, Wesmandy, Ionadalba and beyond. The first link, between the small harbour at Hetterstrecht and Koban, is already there. Anyone else interested? It would be something along the lines of the Norwegian Hurtigruten. All input and advice welcome of course.

Sure! its an interesting idea! but since the firth is there, i’m working in change welsrijk so much…so it’ll take a while

If you can, try extending to Archanta. You can go through the Mecyna Canal

Short shipping within the inlet is probably okay, but we should really start emphasizing that long-distance lines should not be attempted without advanced mapping skills. People have drawn some really bad shipping lines all over the world and they can be a major nuisance to clean up.

I would be happy to be part of these, e.g. at Porthbrenin and Caerarthen in Tircambry. Wesmandy and Ionadàlba too, although neither of these have any modern ports mapped yet.
I’m wondering about the name “Firth of Hetzer”. Do you envisage this applying only to the new inlet? I’ve been wondering about a name for the gulf between Tircambry and Wesmandy/Ionadàlba, but had never really thought of it as a firth.

To my mind the firth runs from Utterland to the western border of Ísztianország, opposite the western border of Vinnmark (at Kongshavn). I have not thought of a name for the gulf beyond, so feel free.

I’m thinking “Morcanol Bay” for the outer bay, from the Welsh/Cambric “Môr canol” - Middle Sea - since the bay divides the Caeltig (Celtic) peoples to the north and south of it (although Ingerish-speaking now, Wesmandy was once Caeltig too).

I have provisionally renamed the Hetzer Sea as Morcanol Bay, and I have replaced the relation with a single node (place=sea, natural=bay), which seems to be normal for large bays in OSM (from the examples I looked at, e.g. Hudson Bay).

I’m happy to go with your suggestion, @pawl, as this bay / sea is surrounded by your territories with Celtic connotations.
Totally beside the point, but I’m tempted claim UL148 as a second territory in the near future (once Utterland is fleshed out a bit more) with Scots Gaelic-type names.

Morcanol Bay is showing at zoom 14 and higher. It would be nice to see it at lower zooms, though.

@ADB52, I was sort-of hoping for an Irish-Gaelic UL148, but a Scots Gaelic one would work nicely. In the original history of Ionadàlba and Wesmandy which Udi and I discussed, we were thinking that the Gaels settled Ionadàlba from the south-east before c400CE, but they could have come by sea from UL148 instead.
