Getting a territory name to display on the map
Posted by BelpheniaProject on 30 October 2014 in English.Hello, now it’s been a while since I came here, and recently claimed my own territory UL016 after one week of my membership, is it possible to get my country’s name Belphenia to display on the world map?
Also, is it possible to add states and provinces within my territory, and display the names like the others?

Map display of names is controlled by stand-alone nodes with “place” key / tag. For your country, place a single node near the center of your country and tag it with:
You can get more local administrative divisions through placement of similar tags at high admin_levels, e.g.
ref = SN

To actually divide your country into states, counties, etc. you can create borders and relations, which is a very in-depth and complex undertaking but is great for keeping your country organized. The relations don’t have much impact on rendering, however, so if you’re just going for aesthetics you don’t really need to worry about it. You can study some countries with complex subdivisions - I learned by studying Khaiwoon, because it is small (so it’s easy to load in JOSM) but very detailed.

You can read in the OpenGeoFiction-wiki here a lot about boundaries. Therefore we made the help-items.

Welcome, It’s nice to finally have a neighbor. Bordertown, where B997 meets Orinoco was built almost a year ago.
