taking a break from OGF

Posted by CaboAzul on 4 July 2019 in English (English)

Hey everybody. I need to take a break to figure things out.

Three main factors have contributed to my decision. By far most importantly, I have switched jobs. I now have hours that give me very little free time compared to what I used to have, and as much as I love the OGF community, my family comes first.

Secondly, I’ve encountered some difficulty in OGF itself. I’ve lost much interest in mapping since my territory request was turned down again. It seems that my computer simply cannot run JOSM, so I have to make edits very slowly using iD. Vertbourne took me many, many hours to make this way, and if it takes me that much blood, sweat, and tears to make a town as small and badly designed as Vertbourne, I can’t imagine ever creating something that an admin approves of.

And finally, it seems as if all my new diary entries are being deleted. If I can’t communicate with the community this way, none of my many silly questions can be answered (messages take weeks to be answered, if at all). I still don’t know who is deleting my diary entries or why.

The diaries never go away. They just leave the front page. At the bottom you will find a link that says "Older Entries". Click that. You'll see older entries.

We will be sad to see you go. Vertbourne is an awesome creation. I hope that, where ever the internet takes you next, you find your happy place.

I've made an honorary street in Gorse Sands Retirement Home , Perugi for Vertbourne.

I'm currently using iD too.

Diary entries are usually deleted by admins. Anyway it is a bit sad to see you go. Hope you will come back from time to time if you want to.

I will try to visit every once in a while, maybe make a few edits here or there. But I won’t be mapping that much anymore, due to not having enough time.

You don't have to leave just because you don't have time. I rarely edit anymore, but still have big plans for when I do have more time again. Just edit when you feel like it. No need to leave the community!

Okay, Thunderbird. I’ll stay if it makes you feel better, but I will very rarely make edits for a while, if that’s okay.

Hey CaboAzul.

I’m not pressuring you to stay in OGF or anything. I understand that family matters, and it’s a good thing to realize.

But don’t feel bad about yourself. Vertbourne is not badly designed, especially when comparing it to other cities in Commonia. And small isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Some of the best towns mapped in OGF are extremely small.

Mapping slow is also not something to degrade yourself about- I’m happy to admit that I’m a pretty slow mapper myself. It means that you have the ability (and patience) to put every detail you can possibly think of into your work. You are thoughtful regarding your city’s design too- you have placed it by the mouth of a river, you haven’t created an excessive motorway junction, you keep natural features in mind all the while. Even though Vertbourne might just be another hamlet on OGF to you, it’s not something to call badly designed at all. If I were an admin, I would definitely approve of Vertbourne, and I have been known to make some harsh criticisms.

And if that doesn’t satisfy you, then I’d be happy to offer you advice not collaborate on Vertbourne in order to satisfy your needs.
