When I started my country, Tengappei, I chose to make it have a Japanese, or ‘Nihonish’, culture largely due to the fact that the nearby Koberro and Heben were East Asian, as well as the statement in the Wiki that Paxtar was largely Nihonish (also Hidara and Bickendan sounded like a very Asian name). However, since then, both Koberro and Heben have gone inactive and I have found out that Paxtar and Hidara are not Nihonish. This leaves my country as a lone, East Asian country in Anteraphia (other than Meilan), leaving me struggling to develop a history. I have noticed that Heben has been left grey for a long time so I am somewhat wondering if there are any plans. In addition, there is a largeish free country right agacent to me which could be East Asian. I am thinking about remove the Japanese characters and arguing that Tengappei has a language with very similar phonetic rules to Japanese (not many of the names make sense anyway), however, this seems a bit sad and I still want to represent my Japanese ancestry and I want to keep a Japanese style city planning. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Here is an idea: maybe migration of Belphanic people came to your country, spreading nihonish influences in your court?

Currently the east Asian countries aren’t that unified. It could be easily argued that east Asians from wherever the original east Asian country is located (most likely somewhere in the uncharted continents), migrated to these current continents.
If we mapped the current east Asian countries (language) we have.
Tengappei- Japanese Hoppon- Hopponese/Japanese Belphenia-Nihonish/Japanese Melian- Chinese
Parts of: Paxtar- Nihonish/Japanese province??? Ardisphere- Korean (Gohanguk) Kojo (Mix of Japanese (a little influence) and Armenian??? (Forgot what language mix)) Commonia-China Calliesanyo- Japanese
Another idea is you can join the region were Belhpenia, Hoppon and Paxtar is as well as other Asian nations. By moving Tengappei there. It would allow some consistency if we could move these nations all to SW Uletha, but that is hard work. Also just because your east Asian doesn’t mean you can’t do Japanese mapping. You can move your nation to UL019 or I can even give you a part of Hoppon to move your country too.

Referring to Portopolis offer, I too would be thrilled to welcome Tengappei to the Axian peninsular ;D Just a quick note, the original ancestor of modern Kojolese is Pyilser, which I imagine as a con lang without any RW resemblence. “Japanese” then added a major influence in the 17th century, going so far that modern Kojolese could be called a hybrid language or creole, depending on the terminology. But it’s definitely not a “version” of Japanese. When I look for root words for some “native” kojolese vocab I sometimes take a peek at Armenian, and then try to convert that in a way that it fits in with Kojolese phonology, so it’s really just a source of inspiration rather than an actual base language.
As Luciano mentioned quite a while before, the “origin” of Japanese is hard to imagine without locating a sinosphere first, unless you imagine a completely different writing system and drop all the Japanese vocab influenced by Chinese (a lot).
Also when moving a country, don’t neglect thinking about the climate! Just my two cents.

Yeah, Tengappei is a small nation and I think I could give you a substantial portion of unmapped land in Hoppon so you could join our little Sinosphere http://opengeofiction.net/#map=9/29.2277/117.3120 -I could give you all of Eastern Hoppon, it could work if I moved the city of Nete and Rory on the other side and you could decide to keep or delete the lake if you wanted to. BTW here is UL-019, it is larger than Tenggapei but you can continue the sparsely populated cold north concept that Kojo has.

While northern Kojo probably isn’t exactly cold, it would generally make sense to continue the mountainous theme throughout the spine of the larger peninsular, including the the north of UL019. At the moment however, the territory is owned by Floodgate.

@MrOobling: I think most people like the Japanese aspects of Tengappei and would be sad to see those disappear. So there’s no need to change anything, unless you want to. It’s fine to be different from your neighbors, and it’s fine to move to an area with more similar neighbors if that’s what you prefer (if so, contact admin). Koberro and Heben are marked as reserved so that we can preserve their content, and possibly use that content to help form an “East Asian” area somewhere in the future.

I don’t know why I said cold, Leowezy. I always link mountains with cold for some reason even though it can be quite the opposite.

I think I will follow your suggestions and move Tengappei to the South-Eastern Ulethan Sinosphere, probably Eastern Hoppon as opposed to UL_019. I’ll start organising that.

Something to add on: Commonia is not the OGF equivalent of China. Babelic is another form of Chinese, possibly widely spoken in Archanta rather than Antarephia.

Welcome to the club then, MrOobling ;D Looking forwards to your move; keep us updated on your and Portopolis proceedings! In case you haven’t fount it yet, I found this climate map pretty useful.

The movement of Tengappei has been completed!
