Hello!
Long time no see, so I have a problem, namely a problem with how stuff appears, check out for yourself
https://opengeofiction.net/#map=17/63.15464/47.52682 On the normal render, you can’t see the ‘zeegracht’ or the island in the middle of the of the lake, but change to topomap or histor, and you can.
I have tried everything that I know of, but I really don’t see what’s causing it, so is there someone out there who can help me fix this issue?

I’m not sure about this, but try to reverse the direction of the ways. The multipolygon relation may require that all its polygons have same direction in order to interpret the roles “outer” and “inner” correctly. The anti-flooding rule “land always on the left” only applies to coastlines, not to closed inland water bodies.

I set one relation of your pedestrian way to “area = yes”. Hope, it helps. If yes, set to the second pedestrian area relation too “area = yes”.

And a second: First draw inner lines without any tags - only a line set to the relation with the role “inner” Therafter you can draw on the nodes of the inner line an area - here as “water”. I changed the inner parts of your relations. You made two relations nearby with the same name, so I set W and E to have an overlook. Sure that you can change back.

I did both the reverse way trick and what you suggested and it seems to all render properly now

So now it works. The basic is: The multipoligon-relation carries all tags (pedestrian zone and so on). Outer and inner are only closed lines without any tags, but with the role outer or inner at the relation. In the inner lines then you can draw the different area - with the same nodes or inside of the inner line. The standard-style seemed to will have more exact datas as the histor- or topomap-style.

Histor is right. You had tags on the ways as well as the multipolygon relation. If you tag a way with highway=pedestrian and area=yes then those tags will “over-ride” the other way tags or relation, and it won’t render. Although you’d made the water as inner in the multipolygon relation, it wasn’t working because you hadn’t tagged the multipolygon itself with anything. I corrected this, which is why it renders (sorry, I didn’t have time to message earlier). Also, note you don’t need the area=yes tag on a highway multipolygon - you can try for yourself: adding or taking off area=yes won’t make a difference to how the multipolygon renders, nor will the direction of the ways.
If you want to make the pedestrian area a single feature (i.e. you don’t want separate areas or names for both halves of the square) you should make a single multipolygon with the church as a hole in the middle, same way as the water areas That way the name tags won’t lie on top of the church.

Hmm. If I understand right, it is the outer way of a relation that needs to be untagged so it won’t override the inner “holes” in the area. The “hole” can perfectly well be tagged with landuse and other things, because the area within it is not part of the relation area so no overriding takes place. This lake-island relation in my country serve as an example:

@ LemonKing: If you say so, it may work - I did not try. For me I prefer a simple relation for always have a good overlook. “Many ways are leading to Rome”.

@ LemonKing - yes, exactly right. The way of the hole can be tagged itself or be part of a second multipolygon. In terms of the issue this diary was about - highway tagging - the outer way can’t. The area=yes tag on the outer way would over-ride the other tags (and the inner ways of the multipolygon).
