What should my city be named?

Posted by Megacity2005Creator on 18 February 2019 in English (English)

I've been working on The Premises in Mecyna for a few months, but I've felt that the name feels too unnatural, so I need ideas on the city's new name. I just deleted the name (although it might not have rendered yet).

Guidelines:

This city is VERY recent. It is a master-planned community constructed from the early to mid 1990s, and it flourished from a modern industry that was rooted there before the city was actually built. The Premises could possibly be the name of the city in the couple or so years before it really began to develop.

The area is very mountainous, and slightly chillier than the tropics of the lower ground, although it rarely snows. There is an area of flat land to the southwest (along route 193) that will consist of mostly farms.

It has few natural resources but is boosted by information technology and similar industries, and has several universities.

If anyone has ideas, please comment! i will appreciate the feedback! Megacity2005Creator

A great way to solve the problem when you have a name you don't like is to try translating it into a different language and see if it sounds better. Thus "The Premises" in French might be Les Locaux, in Russian Pomeshcheniya (помещения), in Korean Gunae (구내).

Modern "planned cities" are sometimes named after politicians or other public figures, but most often they are simply given names based on whatever the locality was called prior to development. The city I lived in in Korea (Ilsan 일산) was a modern, planned city (built in the 1990s), but the name was taken from a rural railroad depot built by the Japanese in the 1920s on the Gyeongui Line, which in turn was named for a nearby hill. Likewise the famous Milton Keynes in UK was simply a pre-existing village, and Canberra in Australia (slightly older, but a planned city nevertheless) inherited the aborignal name for the locality.

I think you should give avay 'the' and change the word 'premises' to something you like. For example, I think names like Premis, Permis or Pirmes sound good.

I think my main goal is to get rid of “The Premises” of any form as a current name entirely...

These are all good suggestions! I will take these into account as I continue thinking.
