Canary Corner

Posted by RubyIGuess on 26 January 2020 in English (English)

Canary Corner is kind of my 'Babby's first town'. I've tried to emulate some towns in the central valley of California, particularly Modesto.

I'll admit what I've produced is honestly only kind of started. I've only really finished the downtown area, which is admittedly a lot smaller than what Modesto actually has. My main goal is to finish up the outer areas, where a lot of residential areas are.

Questions and criticism on what I've done so far are welcome.

It would be better to ask for feedback after you dig in a bit more...

  • The shapes of the 4 buildings...
  • amenity=school is a landuse tag. Draw buildings separately with building=school.
  • Diamond blocks... which itself isn't really a problem, but it's just against logic: Assuming there was nothing on the land, it would be more space-saving to use squares/rectangles than diamonds. After all, looking at Modesto, most buildings usually consist of either 90° or 45° angles... Still, 100mx100m is a good size to start with.

The whole diamonds thing was probably a consequence of me trying to follow the direction of the highway a bit too much. Looking at it further I probably could have done it better.

Thanks for your feedback, even at this incredibly early stage. I'll keep your thoughts in mind while I continue to revise things.

Diverging a bit, but didn't know there was another 'slant streets' area in the US other than Missoula!
